About the role
The Lab Operations and Instrumentation Manager is responsible for assessing business needs and configuring, upgrading and optimising the Empower and NuGenesis platforms to improve operational efficiency across Haleon laboratories.
This role manages the application lifecycle of these systems, interprets business requirements, maintains procedures, and ensures the availability and effective operation of laboratory instrumentation across the network.
Key responsibilities
- Manage Empower and NuGenesis platforms, including configuration, performance, reporting, archival capabilities, development and delivery of Product Roadmap.
- Establish performance metrics and ensure systems are appropriately sized, optimised and resilient
- Provide global support across the plant network to ensure effective use of laboratory equipment (approximately 1,000 instruments)
- Support planning, configuration and deployment of laboratory automation infrastructure across sites
- Act as a primary point of contact for advanced (L4) support and liaison with laboratories
- Implement and manage backup, archival and data retention strategies across laboratory systems
- Maintain procedures and best practices supporting normal operations, new equipment introduction and troubleshooting
Qualifications and skills
Essential
- Experience working with chromatography and laboratory data systems, including data acquisition and storage
- Experience supporting global applications across manufacturing and R&D environments
- Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to varied audiences
- Experience working in complex, regulated environments
Preferred
- Working knowledge of Empower and NuGenesis platforms
- Understanding of HPLC and GC laboratory environments
- Knowledge of Lab interfacing software (e.g. Scitara)
- Knowledge of systems validation and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of Product Management for COTS application
- Experience working on cross‑functional, international initiatives
- Experience working in matrix reporting environments
- Experience of JIRA for backlog and sprint management
- Coaching or mentoring experience
