Machine Shop Support Technician (Grinding & Swiss)
Work Arrangement: On-Site, Hamel, MN
First shift position with flexible scheduling options, including 4x10s and 5x8s schedules.

Role Overview
The Machine Shop Support Technician (Grinding & Swiss) creates and maintains cylindrical grinding and Swiss CNC programs, setup instructions, and tooling documentation using our latest CAM software package. This role documents tooling and setup procedures so machinists and machine operators can complete part-to-part changeovers quickly and consistently. It also leads small projects and groups driving continuous improvement across the machine shop. Working closely with Design Engineering, machinists, machine operators, and inspection personnel, the technician assists with material, tooling, and machine selection to bring in equipment with the latest technology. As project leader for new equipment selection and implementation, this position focuses on grinding and Swiss machine applications and directly supports the quality and throughput of the precision components that go into Tolomatic actuators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain cylindrical grinding and Swiss CNC programs, and update existing CNC programs using the latest CAM software package.
  • Develop setup instructions and document tooling and setup procedures that maximize the ability of machinists and machine operators to perform part-to-part changeovers.
  • Assist with material, tooling, and machine selection processes to drive continuous improvement and obtain equipment with the latest technology.
  • Serve as project leader for new equipment selection and implementation, focusing on grinding and Swiss machine applications.
  • Lead small projects and groups supporting continuous improvement efforts, and mentor machinists and machine operators on new programs and processes.

What You Bring
  • Associate's degree or two years of technical training in machine tool technology or a related field.
  • Experience programming turning operations, with an emphasis on grinding and Swiss operations, is required.
  • MasterCAM Mill experience preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize CAD (SolidWorks) in the creation of CAM programs desired.
  • Ability to perform complete setup and operation of a wide range of CNC grinding and Swiss machining centers.
  • Ability to mentor and lead projects and other group activities.
  • Ability to analyze data and present summaries to justify process, tooling, or machine changes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Design Engineering, machinists, machine operators, and inspection personnel, and to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to use Excel and ERP software to track and monitor consumable items and maintenance frequencies.

Compensation
$38 - $50/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
