Job Description
Within the Solution Architecture and Engineering IT organization, we are looking for an experienced team leader to grow a high-performing engineering team while owning and contributing to the delivery of an enterprise data platform and other initiatives across a complex landscape.
This role combines people leadership with deep technical ownership: you will lead a team of data engineers, set technical direction, and ensure delivery across systems that span both transactional and analytical architectures.
The role carries firm-wide impact, ensuring, in collaboration with the platform management team, that the data platform is not only delivered but adopted across the organization, and built to support the company's technology landscape as it evolves.
The key tasks include:
Build, lead and grow a high-performing team of data engineers, including hiring and talent development, balancing hands-on technical involvement with people leadership as the team scales, and fostering a culture of ownership, business orientation, quality, and continuous improvement;
Own the IT delivery of data engineering initiatives across a complex, large-scale landscape, collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholder groups to ensure reliable outcomes in a demanding and fast-paced business environment;
Partner with other engineering disciplines (software, integration and AI) as well as architecture to contribute to devising the technical direction for the data platform / data engineering products and ensure synergies are exploited across the various teams;
Drive the adoption of AI within data engineering, from AI-assisted development and tooling to embedding AI-driven capabilities into data pipelines and platforms;
Ensure operational excellence across the data platform, keeping it reliable, cost-effective, and performant while continuously working to minimize operational efforts and overhead;
Collaborate with the relevant IT and platform management organizations to drive the implementation of data quality, observability, and governance topics within the data platform.
Requirements
Track record delivering large-scale, complex products in demanding environments with significant technical and organizational complexity;
Proven experience (5+ years) leading engineering teams, including people leadership, hiring, coaching, and performance development;
Proven experience operating platforms in production at scale, including monitoring, incident management, and driving reliability and operational efficiency over time;Strong hands-on expertise across hybrid architectures, both transactional/operational systems and analytical platforms (data warehouses, lakes), and how to integrate them;
Knowledge and experience with Azure, Snowflake, dbt and Python are of advantage;Solid engineering fundamentals spanning both classical core software engineering practices (e.g., testing, architecture patterns, CI/CD) and modern data engineering (e.g., pipeline design, data modeling, cloud data platforms, data observability);
Ability to operate at different levels: technically strong to make hands-on contributions and credible technical calls, while equally committed to the people side of the role developing a high performing team;
Good understanding of how AI is changing engineering practices, from AI-assisted development and testing to its implications for data platforms and team ways of working;
Strong stakeholder management, able to work with architecture, product, and business functions and translate between them;
Communicates with confidence and clarity, distilling technical and delivery trade-offs into language that lands with engineers and business stakeholders alike;
Experience in financial services and/or asset management is an advantage.
Excellent English oral and written communication skills; German is a plus.
