Texas, Colorado, California Region | 40–60% Travel
About the Role
As the Vice President of Operations (the “VP, Operations”), you will lead and drive the operational and financial success of our hospitals, fostering a high-performing and engaged team culture that supports excellent client and patient care within your assigned region. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (the “CEO”) and collaborating with cross-functional leadership, you’ll be accountable for the strategic execution of business goals, financial growth, operational excellence, and team development, ensuring that your assigned hospitals operate efficiently and to the highest standards. The VP, Operations role requires flexibility – as the volume of practices and leaders may expand and contract over time.

In this senior leadership role, you will partner closely with VIP’s leadership team, such as the Chief Medical Officer, Human Resources team, Marketing team, Finance team, and Regional Managers to advance strategic initiatives, optimize performance across multiple locations, and uphold our commitment to exceptional client and patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities
You'll lead a portfolio of hospitals by:
Strategic Financial Management:
- Drive financial performance, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and exceeding expectations for revenue, COGS, labor, and EBITDA.
- Oversee and optimize financial metrics, including revenue growth, client retention, and cost control.
- Lead initiatives for same-store growth in high-impact service areas, such as wellness, preventive care, and surgical services.
Customer Experience and Satisfaction:
- Champion a customer-centric culture, ensuring delivery of outstanding experiences that meet our high standards.
- Maintain an industry-leading Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 90+ and promote strong client acquisition and retention strategies.
Innovation and Operational Efficiency:
- Implement innovative processes that streamline operations and enhance employee, client, and patient satisfaction.
- Conduct regular on-site and virtual visits to monitor and enhance operational KPIs and digital tool usage, optimizing staff efficiency and revenue potential.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
- Proactively address risk management, adhering to safety protocols and maintaining the highest standards of patient care and team conduct.
Client Service and Quality Management:
- Oversee the delivery of quality medical practices, ensuring client satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Partner with hospital leaders to monitor service quality, address client concerns, and enhance non-medical client communications.
Leadership Development and Training:
- Cultivate a sense of ownership and accountability among Regional Managers, Medical Directors and Practice Managers.
- Oversee the development and implementation of training programs, staff engagement initiatives, and problem-solving support for daily hospital operations.
Human Resources and Performance Management:
- Oversee HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance reviews, and leadership coaching.
- Support hospital leadership teams in maintaining effective staffing schedules and adherence to employment laws, collaborating closely with the recruiting department to meet regional staffing needs.
Financial Analysis and Performance Optimization:
- Lead revenue management initiatives, including pricing audits and service evaluations to maximize growth.
- Collaborate with practice and medical leadership to monitor financial performance, create actionable plans, and manage labor and COGS effectively.
Marketing and Community Engagement:
- Partner with the marketing team to execute regional marketing strategies, monitor outreach initiatives, and ensure effective promotion of services.
- Guide teams in tracking social media engagement, managing online reputation, and participating in community outreach to enhance brand presence.
Facility Oversight and Asset Management:
- Ensure all facilities are maintained to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Manage relationships with the facilities team for repairs, upgrades, and capital expenditures, aligning asset management with business needs.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a senior operational role in a veterinary setting.
- Demonstrated multi-location management experience with a focus on team engagement, financial success, and client satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven expertise in P&L management, budget oversight, and strategic planning.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a track record of building, leading, and inspiring teams across multi-location settings.
- Exceptional organizational abilities, with a focus on process improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficient in implementing data-driven strategies to achieve business goals and improve operational outcomes.
Location and Travel
- This role is based primarily in Texas and will primarily support hospitals throughout the Texas, Colorado, and California region.
- Regular travel throughout the region is expected, along with periodic travel to additional hospitals within the VIP network and our Support Center in Franklin, Tennessee.
- Travel Requirement: 40–60%
