Job Title
QA Engineer – Backend InfrastructureJob Description
QA Engineer – Backend Infrastructure
Temporary position for 1 year
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and technically curious QA Engineer to join our Backend Infrastructure team.
In this role, you will be responsible for validating large-scale enterprise backend systems used in healthcare environments, ensuring their quality, reliability, performance, and operational stability.
You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps, automation teams, and product stakeholders to validate complex distributed systems, investigate failures, improve testing strategies, and help deliver highly reliable software releases.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work end-to-end, troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues, and validating real-world deployment scenarios across application, operating system, networking and database layers.
Key Responsibilities
System & Infrastructure Validation
- Design and execute functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end tests for backend infrastructure components.
- Validate distributed systems composed of multiple services, applications, and dependencies.
- Test installation, upgrade, migration, configuration, backup, and recovery workflows.
- Verify system behavior across single-server, clustered, distributed, and cloud-based deployments.
Windows & IIS Testing
- Validate Windows-based applications, services, scheduled tasks, permissions, and operating system configurations.
- Test IIS-based applications, including application pools, bindings, TLS certificates, authentication mechanisms, and HTTP/HTTPS communication.
- Investigate service startup failures, configuration issues, connectivity problems, and deployment defects.
- Analyze Windows Event Viewer logs, IIS logs, application logs, and diagnostic data to identify root causes.
Performance & Reliability
- Identify bottlenecks related to CPU, memory, storage, networking, databases, and service interactions.
- Validate system stability under resource exhaustion, service failures, network interruptions, and infrastructure outages.
- Participate in reliability improvement initiatives and post-incident investigations.
Technical Investigation & Collaboration
- Reproduce, isolate, and troubleshoot complex customer and field-reported issues.
- Perform technical root-cause analysis and provide evidence-based findings.
- Work closely with development teams to identify failure points and verify fixes.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to improving product quality throughout the development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in software QA, preferably in backend, infrastructure, enterprise, or server-side systems.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and test design techniques.
- Hands-on experience testing complex backend systems and integrations.
- Strong experience working with Windows operating systems and Windows Server.
- Experience testing Windows Services, service dependencies, permissions, configuration, startup, recovery, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with IIS and web services, including:
- HTTP/HTTPS
- Application Pools
- Bindings
- TLS/Certificates
- Authentication and connectivity troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- Ports
- Firewalls
- Client-server communication
- Experience with installation, upgrade, migration, and recovery testing.
- Experience using troubleshooting and diagnostic tools such as:
- Event Viewer
- PowerShell
- Log analysis tools
- Network diagnostic tools
- Scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kafka, message brokers, or event-driven architectures.
- Experience with databases and database performance analysis.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms.
- Experience using packet capture and network analysis tools such as Wireshark.
- Experience debugging crash dumps and investigating production incidents.
- Experience with healthcare interoperability technologies:
- DICOM
- HL7
- TLS/Security protocols
- Experience working in regulated healthcare or medical software environments.
What We Are Looking For
We are not looking for someone who simply executes test cases.
We are looking for an engineer who:
- Wants to understand how the entire system works.
- Enjoys investigating complex infrastructure issues.
- Can independently debug failures across application, service, operating system, network, and deployment layers.
- Uses logs, diagnostics, and system behavior to narrow problems down to the most likely root cause.
- Proactively improves automation, tooling, monitoring, and overall software quality.
You should be able to move from:
"The system is not working"
to
"I reproduced the issue, analyzed the logs and system behavior, identified the failing component, and can provide evidence supporting the root cause and proposed fix."
If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working closely with engineering teams, and contributing to the reliability of enterprise-scale healthcare systems, we'd love to hear from you.
