Description
At Freddie Mac, our mission of Making Home Possible is what motivates us, and it’s at the core of everything we do. Since our charter in 1970, we have made home possible for more than 90 million families across the country. Join an organization where your work contributes to a greater purpose.
Position Overview:
The Senior Lead, Risk Identification & Insights owns independent analysis of risk data, and leads external horizon scanning to surface risks before they materialize into losses or control failures. This role works closely with domain-specific first-line and second-line teams.
Our Impact:
Freddie Mac’s Risk Appetite & Insights team is part of Enterprise Risk Management second-line function. It is responsible for enterprise risk identification, assessment, aggregation, appetite, reporting, cross-domain risk synthesis, and surveillance of emerging risk.
Your Impact:
Analyze internal risk data to identify emerging financial or nonfinancial risk themes.
Own continuous external horizon scanning — threat intelligence, industry incidents, regulatory and enforcement trends — as a standing function, not an ad hoc task.
Connect outputs from the enterprise risk identification and material risk assessment process to independent analysis — surfacing where risks are understated, accelerating, or missing signal that external/internal surveillance is already picking up.
Synthesize findings into concise, decision-useful insight for leadership, distinguishing genuine signal from noise.
Partner with domain-specific second-line oversight teams (financial risk and non-financial risk) to connect findings without duplicating their oversight mandate.
Present findings to senior stakeholders, including instances where the insight challenges the prevailing internal view — requires holding a position under pushback without becoming adversarial.
Contribute to the enterprise risk methodology as a subject-matter expert.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in risk management, internal or external audit, financial or non-financial risk management, or a related second-line discipline at a financial institution in an analytical role.
- Working knowledge of GSE or mortgage finance business model and key risk exposures.
- Working knowledge of risk management frameworks across risk taxonomy
- Track record of working effectively with large stakeholder base
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certification a plus.
Keys to Success in this Role:
Demonstrated ability to synthesize disparate, ambiguous data into a clear point of view — not just report what happened, but why it matters and what connects to what.
Comfortable operating with incomplete information and revising a position when better evidence appears; equally comfortable holding a position when it doesn’t.
