Overview

The Environmental Dispute Resolution (EDR) Program fosters a culture of collaboration around environmental, community, and broader public policy issues by helping people be more skillful in working through conflict. The Program is based in the School of Social Sciences and is a partner of the Heravi Peace Institute. It focuses on building capacity for collaboration through training, thought leadership, and collaboration assistance and advising.

The Program Coordinator, Senior serves as the EDR Progam. This person plans, coordinates, and implements the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of the EDR program. Working with the EDR Program Director, this position designs, coordinates, and implements EDR Program initiatives and activities, including; developing and implementing policies, initiatives, and strategies; administering educational materials and trainings; providing collaboration assistance and advising; managing staff; preparing program budgets and goals, overseeing finances, and ensuring continued funding; and maintaining program continuity and quality

This position reports to the EDR Program Director and may be filled at the 0.75 or 1.0 FTE level. This FTE may shift over time, depending on the incumbent’s preferences and program needs.

 

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. 

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the EDR Program instructional team; may plan, lead, and/or facilitate seminars, classes, conferences, and/or workshops. Co-instructs the Collaboration Certificate Course, Federal Collaboration Certificate Course, and other educational courses/workshops as needed. Develops/manages course materials, Canvas pages, etc.
  • Engages in collaboration-related projects; provides collaboration assistance and advising with the EDR team; conducts situation assessments. May facilitate meetings and special projects.
  • Coordinates EDR Program research activities and manages IRB compliance. Collects and analyzes data; prepares scheduled and special reports; and maintains program records and statistical information. Administers and manages program surveys.
  • Oversees EDR Program outreach and communication efforts. Writes, edits, and coordinates development of promotional materials, educational materials, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate. Manages EDR Program website content.
  • In partnership with the EDR Program Director, manages the EDR Program’s budget, estimates budgetary requirements for special projects, and oversees purchases and inventory. Manages invoicing/payment processes. Works with the Director to ensure continued funding of the program. May develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the program.
  • Coordinates activities of support staff, consultants, faculty, and/or volunteers engaged in implementation and administration of program objectives. May train and direct lower level staff, student employees, volunteers, and/or graduate students. Coordinates EDR Program processes for hiring, performance reviews, etc.
  • Ensures completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation and editing of program correspondence, documents, reports, program handouts, and other publications.
  • Responsible for managing EDR Program course application processes, overseeing communication with course participants, and maintaining quality customer service throughout. Reviews EDR products, proposals, etc. to ensure quality.
  • Writes and/or assists with writing grants and proposals as appropriate; may participate in other fundraising activities.
  • Contributes to business and operational decisions that affect the Program. Works with the EDR Program Director to develop and oversee the EDR Program vision and goals, and to create short and long-term plans.
  • Serves as a principal liaison between students, faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies.
  • May serve as administrative proxy in the absence of the EDR Program Director
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus four years of experience; or a master’s degree in a related field plus two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Education: Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related field, ideally including graduate-level coursework in community planning, business administration, etc.
  • Expertise: More than 10 years of experience in public higher education program management and proven success navigating university systems, including IRB. Extensive experience working with environmental NGO’s in Utah. Utah court-rostered mediation credential preferred.
  • Supervisory Experience: More than 10 years of supervisory experience, including supervision of undergraduate/graduate students, volunteers, and professional staff
  • Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in an academic environment, demonstrating high-level problem solving and communication skills. Experience and comfort working with and overseeing a mostly remote team.

Kowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of principles and practices related to program management in a public university setting
  • Knowledge of facilitation, mediation, collaboration, and public engagement principles and practices
  • Knowledge of how to collect, analyze, and summarize data for situation assessments
  • Knowledge of research, data collection and information gathering methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of communication and outreach approaches
  • Skilled in written and verbal communications
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including Qualtrics.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgements.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings, workshops, trainings, and special events.
  • Ability to lead and train staff, students, volunteers, and/or students.
  • Ability to interact successfully with students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Ability to work successfully in an academic environment.

    Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.
