Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Director for Fund Management and Reporting, UNLV Financial Aid [R0153111]

ROLE of the POSITION

Reporting to Associate Director of Operations and Reporting (ADOR), the Assistant Director for Fund Management (ADFM) monitors and reconciles financial aid accounts within the PeopleSoft student information system against the Workday accounting systems, U.S. Department of Education G5 and Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) systems, UNLV Sponsored Programs, UNLV Controller’s Office, Nevada Treasurer’s Office, and internal reports and queries. This position is also responsible for verifying UNLV Foundation account transfers have occurred before scholarship funds are disbursed to students.

The ADFM, while experiencing infrequent interaction with students and parents, will have frequent communication with other University and community stakeholders and serve an important role in assisting the Associate Director of Operations and Reporting, the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships (DFAS) and the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management (AVPEM) in monitoring and managing accounts in order to best utilize funding in the support of students and to further the mission of the University. In addition, the position will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director for Financial Aid and the ADOR to create regular reports to inform the DFAS and the Associate Vice President for Enrollment of trends and/or issues with accounts. The preparation of data for important annual reports and return of funds in a timely manner are also important parts of the role.  

This role will be responsible for ad hoc reporting. This will include, but is not limited to, assisting with requests for fund-related information, data requests from the UNLV legal department and Decision Support, and other offices or entities. The Assistant Director will also provide responses to requests from student loan servicers for skip tracing and identity theft investigations.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Operational Compliance and Reporting and Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships to prepare  the annual Fiscal Operation Report and Application to Participate (FISAP)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Operational Compliance and Reporting and Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships to prepare the annual Nevada System of Higher Education Financial Aid Data Report
  • Provide information to the DFAS and the AVP regarding budget and fiscal matters related to financial aid program administration
  • Prepare and submits reconciliation reporting for Millennium Scholarships, Teach NV and other state funds
  • Run queries and maintain reports on financial aid programs and office statistics regarding funding type disbursement
  • Finalize and closes fiscal year accounts
  • Serve as main contact within the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office with Grants and Contracts, Cashiering, Student Accounts and the Controller’s Office, to discuss and rectify pertinent accounting/reconciliation issues 
  • Return funds as appropriate, including private loans and external scholarship funding
  • Fulfill data requests from UNLV and outside organizations as needed.
  • Assist in audit preparation and review as requested by the DFAS

BACKGROUND SCREENING

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background and/or credit check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 3-5 years of Related Professional Experience, 3-5 Years of Supervisory Experience and 1 – 3 Years of Management Experience.  Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Account management or direct accounting responsibilities for diverse fund types.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Preferably fund management or accounting practices for a regionally accredited public or private 4-yr R-1 institution; specifically in Financial Aid

• Accounting, Finance, Masters in Accounting or Finance, or MBA Degree
