Job Description

Texas A & M-Victoria seeks one full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English (Technical, Professional Writing) with a start date of August 2027.

Qualifications:  The Department of Humanities at Texas A & M-Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in English.  Qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree (by August 15, 2027) in English, technical writing, or a related field; demonstrate excellence in teaching; provide evidence of scholarly, creative, and professional activities; and be willing to teach service courses offered by the English faculty as needed, including composition and professional writing. Other classes would be assigned in accordance with department needs and the new hire’s teaching interests.  As preferred qualifications, we seek a candidate specializing in technical and/or professional writing. Additional experience in digital writing, social media writing, and professional editing is welcome. Experience mentoring undergraduate writers and supporting first-generation students is especially welcomed.

 

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in a small but vigorous English program, including professional writing, composition, and other courses aligned with program needs and the candidate’s expertise. The candidate will hold regular office hours on campus; provide student-centered instruction and support for undergraduate writers; participate in course and program development; maintain an active agenda of scholarly and professional activity; perform appropriate college and service; and work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.  The candidate will also be required to maintain a consistent campus presence.

 

The appointment is a nine-month position. The assigned teaching load for the academic year is 24 hours (4/4). The successful candidate will begin employment in Fall 2027.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System. The University was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Houston System and was transferred to the Texas A&M University System during the 89th Texas Legislative Session. A&M-Victoria is the only four-year university in a 100-mile radius and is just 30 miles from the Texas Gulf Coast. The Jaguars are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the baseball, softball and soccer teams compete in the Red River Athletic Conference.
