The Opportunity

AMA Insurance is looking for an Actuarial Analyst I to join our team. In this role, you’ll work with data from a variety of sources to develop reports and analysis that support operational and strategic decision-making. You’ll contribute to pricing and product changes, help translate actuarial requirements into practical business solutions, and support the implementation and testing of changes within our insurance systems.

You’ll work collaboratively with Actuarial, Underwriting, Business Intelligence, IT and other partners, giving you exposure to how actuarial analysis moves from an idea through to implementation. It’s an opportunity to continue developing your technical expertise while gaining a broader understanding of the property and casualty insurance business.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Develop, produce and maintain custom reports and analysis that respond to business and operational needs.
• Query and analyze data from a variety of sources, transforming complex information into clear, useful insights.
• Support the implementation of pricing, product and process changes across AMA Insurance.
• Help translate actuarial filings and proposed changes into clear business requirements.
• Create and maintain rating calculators that support the implementation of pricing and underwriting changes.
• Develop test plans and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) to help ensure changes are implemented accurately.
• Support and troubleshoot changes involving the insurance rating engine.
• Contribute to rate filings, including rating profiles, rate pages and related documentation.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to help inform pricing and product decisions.
• Work with partners across Actuarial, Underwriting, Business Intelligence and IT to implement changes and resolve issues.
• Support analytical and data requirements associated with reinsurance and other actuarial activities.
• Look for opportunities to improve existing processes, create reproducible workflows and increase efficiency. 

What You Bring to the Table

• A degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
• Successful completion of a minimum of two CAS exams and all VEE credits, with active pursuit of the ACAS designation.
• Property and casualty insurance industry experience is an asset.
• Working knowledge of analytical tools and technologies such as Excel, Access, SQL, Arius, Python, R, Emblem and SAS.
• Strong research, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• An understanding of—or an interest in continuing to develop your knowledge of—the property and casualty insurance business.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A willingness to learn, develop your technical capabilities and continuously improve the way work gets done.
