Job Description:

  • Inspect utility and development projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, County standards, and applicable regulations

  • Review and interpret engineered utility construction plans, specifications, and permits for adherence to design requirements

  • Verify compliance with Utility Code, Land Development Regulations, State regulations, and contract specifications

  • Represent Public Utilities throughout construction by coordinating with engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, and County departments

  • Conduct field inspections of water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and utility infrastructure projects during all phases of construction

  • Investigate citizen concerns, document field changes and code violations, and prepare detailed inspection reports

  • Recommend and perform specialized field testing to evaluate non-standard construction conditions

  • Monitor utility testing activities and participate in final acceptance inspections for residential, commercial, and subdivision projects

  • Ensure construction is complete and meets all requirements prior to final certification and utility infrastructure turnover

  • Enforce utility codes, engineering standards, and permitting requirements while serving as the onsite representative for the Utilities Regulatory Manager and Supervisor

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Four (4) years of utility construction work and/or inspection and testing of utility work
  • Two (2) years out of the four (4) years, must be in utility inspecting, design, or construction experience
  • College or university-level training in an appropriate field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required utility construction experience
  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire

Preferred "BONUS" Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of utility construction work and/or plan review, inspections and testing of utility or construction work
  • Knowledge of code enforcement procedures, Accela plan review and permitting software computer system
  • Technical knowledge of practices, standards and regulations of utility construction
  • Ability to interpret and use plans and specifications and knowledge of alternative procedures of construction

Physical Demands:  Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $24.74 - $27.00, depending on experience
