About the role:

The Clinical Coordinator, as a leader and member of the management team within the Emergency Department, is responsible and accountable for the co-ordination and direction of all patient care, bed utilization, volunteer and staffing-related activities within the area.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provide operational leadership across all Emergency Department clinical care areas.
  • Support Charge RNs with real-time operational decision-making related to patient flow, staffing, workload distribution, and department capacity.
  • Coordinate daily operational activities to support safe, timely, and efficient patient care.
  • Collaborate with Patient Flow, Bed Management, Clinical Site Management, physicians, and inpatient teams to facilitate timely admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Lead or participate in daily operational huddles, STAT huddles, critical care flow discussions, and surge planning.
  • Monitor departmental capacity and respond proactively to operational pressures, including ambulance offload delays, access block, and Emergency Department overcrowding.
  • Coordinate staffing resources based on patient acuity, volume, and operational priorities.
  • Provide operational leadership and support during high-acuity situations, critical events, and periods of increased demand.
  • Escalate operational concerns through established Emergency Department leadership pathways.
  • Maintain situational awareness of departmental operations and identify emerging risks to patient care or staff safety.
  • Monitor operational performance indicators, including patient flow, Emergency Department length of stay, wait times, and ambulance offload delays.
  • Support Safepoint reviews and operational follow-up activities to promote continuous improvement.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships between nursing, physicians, allied health professionals, Patient Flow, and hospital leadership.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence, providing coaching, guidance, and operational support to frontline teams.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and patient-centred care.

What you bring:

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Leadership, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years of progressive leadership experience in an acute care environment required
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent clinical experience in a high-acuity Emergency Department with CTAS experience required
  • Critical Care Certificate preferred.
  • TNCC, ACLS, and PALS certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating patient flow, staffing, and operational activities within a complex healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of Emergency Department operations, surge management, and hospital patient flow processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and operational partners.
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Lean, quality improvement, or patient safety training is considered an asset.
