The Sydney School of Health Sciences is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The Discipline of Behavioural and Social Sciences in Health (BSSH) brings a social science perspective to understanding health and healthcare, exploring the social, cultural, economic and political factors that influence health outcomes and contribute to inequities. The University is seeking to employee a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer ( Level B or Level C - Teaching and Research) to play a key role in advancing the discipline's strategic focus on health equity, social determinants of health, health services research and research methods education. Working within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will contribute to innovative teaching, impactful research and strong partnerships across the University and external health sectors.

 

This is a continuing full time 40% (teaching), 40% (research), and 20% (service) position, and offers an opportunity to develop and contribute to research and teaching in The Discipline of Behavioural and Social Sciences in Health (BSSH) as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

 

• Design, coordinate and deliver high-quality teaching across quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research approaches
• Contribute to research methods education across undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs
• Coordinate units of study, including assessment design, moderation, quality assurance and management of teaching teams
• Supervise honours students and contribute to the supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates
• Support curriculum development, review and integration of research methods teaching across the School
• Maintain an active and impactful research program aligned with the Discipline's strategic priorities
• Contribute to research funding applications, scholarly publications and collaborative research initiatives
• Provide research methods advice and capacity-building opportunities for students and academic colleagues
• Collaborate with allied health, clinical and interdisciplinary teams to enhance teaching and research outcomes
• Participate in academic service activities, including committees, student advising, outreach and community engagement.

 

About you

• Demonstrated experience teaching university-level research methods across quantitative methodologies
• Experience in curriculum design, unit coordination and assessment development within higher education
• Proven ability to supervise or support student research projects at honours and/or postgraduate level
• Strong knowledge of research design, statistical analysis, quantitative methodologies and mixed-methods approaches
• Established or emerging research profile, including peer-reviewed publications and research collaborations
• Experience securing or contributing to competitive research funding is highly desirable
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex methodological concepts to diverse audiences
• Commitment to equity, social justice and culturally safe teaching and research practices
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries and contribute positively to an academic team
• Ability to engage and support students from diverse backgrounds, including those with limited confidence in research methods and statistics
• Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation in teaching, and the broader academic life of the Discipline, School and Faculty.
