Project Accountant

Location: Charleston, SC
Salary: $65,000–$90,000 per year depending on experience
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

A growing commercial construction company is looking to add a Project Accountant to its accounting team in Charleston, SC. This position will work closely with project managers and the accounting team to oversee the financial performance of commercial construction projects from start to finish.

The ideal candidate will have experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or a similar project-based financial role. Experience at a construction company is required.

Responsibilities

• Manage project accounting and financial reporting for multiple commercial construction projects
• Track project costs, budgets, commitments, and overall financial performance
• Work closely with Project Managers to review project financials and cost-to-complete forecasts
• Prepare and process project billings and invoices
• Monitor accounts receivable, retainage, and outstanding project balances
• Track change orders and ensure costs and revenue are properly reflected
• Assist with monthly WIP reporting and project forecasting
• Review job cost reports and identify discrepancies or potential issues
• Maintain accurate project financial documentation
• Assist with month-end close and other accounting responsibilities
• Communicate with project teams regarding budgets, billing, costs, and financial performance

Qualifications

• 2+ years of project accounting, construction accounting, or related experience preferred
• Accounting experience at a construction company required
• Experience with job costing, project billing, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Understanding of construction contracts, change orders, retainage, and project costs
• Strong Excel and accounting software skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with Project Managers

Compensation

$65,000–$90,000 base salary, depending on experience, with health, dental, vision plans, PTO and a 401K match.
