Description
- Attends and successfully completes an accredited BLET program and successfully completes the required testing for certification.
- Performs fingerprinting duties.
- Provides traffic and pedestrian control for schools, special events, or as assigned.
- Assists with dispatch functions.
- Assists police officers, support services, and investigations with any additional operational and administrative duties.
- Attends all mandatory Police and Village meetings.
- Completes all required in-service training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to operate a computer efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
- Cursory knowledge of law enforcement principals, practices, and methods.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to use sound judgement in emergencies.
- Ability to present effective court testimony.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise activity reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relations with citizens, coworkers, other law enforcement agencies, and Village officials.
Safety

- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate a police vehicle and distinguish details and differences when observing people, places, or things on patrol.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to temperatures typically below 32 degrees and/or above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- Subject to hazards to include a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions where one or more of the following conditions exist: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
- Subject to noise sufficient enough to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- Subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
- Required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
- Subject to exposure to infectious diseases.
- Required to function around prisoners or institutional patients.
Graduation from high school or GED program. Preference given to those with experience in emergency services. Student in accredited Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program.
Possession of a valid NC driver's license. Ability to be certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council as a law enforcement officer after completion of the BLET program and successful completion of the state certification exam. Ability to obtain other required certifications.
