Job Title Graduate Assistant – Intramural Sports
Department: Recreation Services
Supervisor: Austin Wilson
Rate of Pay: $11/hour
Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.
Job Description:
High Point University is currently seeking Graduate Assistants to coordinate intramural sports programming and events. This position manages campus IM sports facilities, programs, operations, and student staff. They will be responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling student staff. The GA for intramural sports will develop and assess programming to service the students of High Point University. The position reports to the Director of Recreation Services. This position requires up to 20 hours per week.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in sport management, sport administration, broadcasting, parks and recreation, exercise science, health education or related field. Required Master’s degree in progress.
Experience and Training:
- Red Cross certification for First Aid and CPR/AED or ability to obtain within 60 days
- Experience working in campus recreation, sports management, parks and recreation or related field
- Customer service experience recommended
- Must cross-train in other areas of HPU Recreation Services including ropes challenge course operation, intramural sports and group exercise facilitation
- Managerial experience or broadcasting experience preferred

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for directing and supervising the programming components of intramural sports
- Referee and score keep intramural sports events hosted on campus
- Facilitate game day operations for intramural sports events (setting up fields/court, operating scoreboard, breaking down field/court)
- First responder to any incidents or accidents during intramural sports events; Assists Director with risk management initiatives for intramural sports
- Create marketing materials for university platforms and social media
- Trains, mentors, and supervises, directly or indirectly, assigned staff; providing frequent feedback to allow for growth and development
- Able to assist all areas of IM Sports and Recreation Services programming, including Outdoor Discovery, intramurals, facilitating ropes challenge course programming and team building exercises, laser tag team building, and recreational excursions trips as needed
- Assists in planning and execution of special events and student orientations and open interviews
- Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, faculty, co-workers, and managers.
