Description
Position Summary
Cannon Companies is seeking an experienced and motivated Fleet Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, repair, and prepare company vehicles and construction equipment for service. The ideal candidate will have experience working for a construction company or contractor fleet, possess strong diagnostic abilities, and be capable of performing everything from preventive maintenance and major repairs to outfitting new vehicles with operational and safety equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled repairs on company vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivability issues using diagnostic scan tools and manufacturer software.
- Maintain and repair fleet vehicles and equipment, including Ford trucks, Freightliner trucks, Caterpillar equipment, John Deere equipment, and Ditch Witch equipment.
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety and regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Prepare new vehicles and equipment for service by installing:
- Inverters
- Work lights
- Strobe and warning light systems
- Camera systems
- Tool storage solutions and accessories
- Complete inspections and document repair recommendations.
- Maintain accurate repair records, service logs, and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate with Operations and Fleet Management to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
- Respond to field service calls and equipment breakdowns as needed.
- Assist with parts inventory management and ordering.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of fleet mechanic experience, preferably supporting a construction company fleet.
- Strong working knowledge of Ford, Freightliner, Caterpillar (CAT), John Deere, and Ditch Witch equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic scan tools for troubleshooting and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle inspection requirements.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
- ASE certifications or manufacturer certifications.
- Experience with heavy equipment and diesel engine repair.
- Metal fabrication experience.
- Experience installing aftermarket vehicle accessories and electrical equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
- Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Safely operate shop equipment, diagnostic tools, and lifting equipment.
