ITW Performance Polymers - Industrial Engineering Co-Op Intern

Role Overview:

ITW Performance Polymers is seeking an Engineering Co-Op to work with the Engineering team at our Danvers, Massachusetts facility. The Engineering Co-Op will be responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in our manufacturing processes.  In addition, the Co-Op will lead a capstone initiative focused on identifying process improvement opportunities and presenting actionable insights to senior leadership. This co-op offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on manufacturing engineering experience and exposure to batch manufacturing processes used in the production of high-performance polymer and adhesive products. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Quality, and R&D teams, while receiving mentorship from experienced engineers. Through day-to-day plant support and the independent capstone project, the co-op will develop practical skills in process optimization, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, record, and analyze production data to make recommendations on process setpoint changes
• Optimize batch manufacturing by implementing changes to equipment and material addition targets and tolerances
• Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both existing and newly implemented manufacturing processes, with a strong emphasis on safety.
• Lead Management of Change reviews to implement changes within departments including production, logistics, and maintenance
• Support equipment modifications and upgrades to improve performance and reliability.
• Assist in implementation of capital projects by developing RFQ’s, scoping projects and participating in safety reviews and equipment commissioning.
• Performs various other duties as necessary.
• Responsibilities assigned for this position will require up to 50% of the workday spent on the production floor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering or higher.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; desire to work in a “hands-on” environment
• Solid troubleshooting skills and the ability to assess the feasibility of engineering designs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including technical writing.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

Compensation Information:

The target compensation for this role is $24.00 to $29.00/hour. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
