Delta Dental of Iowa is seeking a collaborative and analytical Senior Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial operations of Delta Dental of Iowa, its subsidiaries, and related organizations. In this position, you will prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP, support budgeting and forecasting activities, manage regulatory filings, maintain accurate accounting records, and provide backup support for monitoring company cash positions and reviewing the accuracy of cash transactions across bank accounts. You will also serve as the primary accounting resource for payroll, employee benefits, and retirement programs, providing oversight, review, and guidance to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. You will partner closely with Human Resources and other departments to support employee compensation and benefit programs while ensuring accurate financial reporting. Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
- Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, account reconciliations, and financial analyses to support management decision-making and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans for Delta Dental of Iowa.
- Serve as the primary accounting resource and subject matter expert for payroll, employee benefits, and retirement programs, overseeing related accounting, reconciliations, compliance reporting, audits, and funding activities while providing guidance on complex payroll and benefits matters and backup support for payroll processing as needed.
- Evaluate existing accounting and reporting processes and proactively recommend and implement solutions that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance the quality and timeliness of financial information.
- Prepare various management fee reports for subsidiaries.
- Manage accounting, reporting, and payment processes related to internal sales incentive programs.
- Maintain accurate recordkeeping of the company’s PAC accounts.
- Serve as back-up resource for cost allocation and analysis of cost allocation reports.
- Serve as back-up resource for annual broker bonus and monthly commissions.
- Promote service quality initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Experience supporting payroll, employee benefits, retirement plans, and related accounting, reporting, or compliance functions.
- Proficiency with financial systems, Excel, and HRIS/payroll applications.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and drive process efficiencies.
Preferred
- CPA license and/or MBA.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, regulatory reporting, and process automation.
