Position Summary
Forge Nano is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to play a key role in our Finance department. This position is responsible for overseeing core accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and supporting the company's growth through strong financial controls and process improvements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex challenges, and is passionate about building scalable processes while mentoring and supporting junior team members.
Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, allocations, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Revenue Recognition (ASC 606)
- Own and maintain revenue recognition processes and supporting schedules.
- Facilitate monthly revenue review meetings.
- Track bookings, contract modifications, discounts, and change orders.
- Maintain deferred revenue and unbilled revenue schedules.
- Analyze project estimates compared to actual results and coordinate updates as necessary.
- Monitor billing backlogs and revenue forecasts to ensure accurate reporting.
Lease Accounting (ASC 842)
- Manage the full-cycle ASC 842 lease accounting process, including initial recognition.
- Calculate and record Right-of-Use (ROU) assets and corresponding lease liabilities for operating and finance leases.
- Post monthly journal entries, including rent expense, lease amortization, and interest computations
- Perform monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations for lease-related accounts and accruals.
Payroll & Cost Accounting
- Manage payroll accrual and labor allocation processes.
- Ensure labor is accurately coded and allocated to project and departmental cost centers.
- Reconcile payroll accruals and related accounts.
- Support project costing and financial analysis initiatives.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Process vendor invoices and payments through Bill.com.
- Monitor collections and support timely customer payments.
- Record and reconcile deposits and cash receipts.
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing and payment procedures.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Serve as a primary accounting contact during annual audits.
- Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for auditor requests.
- Assist with annual tax filings and related compliance activities.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and accounting consultants.
- Prepare and post audit-related journal entries as required.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Provide guidance, training, and oversight to Staff Accountants.
- Review work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and technology.
- Support ad hoc reporting, analyses, and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with QuickBooks or a comparable ERP/accounting system.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation, CPA candidate status, or other relevant accounting certification.
- QuickBooks Online Certification.
- Familiarity with Workiva, NetSuite, ERP systems, and compliance management platforms.
- Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition and contract accounting.
- Experience with ASC Lease Accounting, complex agreements
- Experience with Federal Grant Compliance (not mandatory)
- Experience supporting external audits and financial statement preparation.
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising accounting staff.
- Experience working in a high-growth manufacturing, technology, or startup environment.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives, internal controls, and accounting system implementations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position provides direction and oversight to Staff Accountants and may delegate assignments to ensure accounting objectives, deadlines, and reporting requirements are achieved.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, scanners, and related technology.
Physical Requirements
This position is primarily sedentary but may occasionally require lifting files, access filing systems, and moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
Travel
No regular travel is required for this position.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 annually. The salary range for this exempt position will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and alignment with internal equity among current employees.
