Budget Analyst

Position Overview

The Louisiana Supreme Court is seeking a Budget Analyst to assist in ensuring that financial resources are effectively planned and managed in accordance with applicable state laws, policies, regulations, and Supreme Court procedures. This position works closely with judicial and administrative departments to develop and monitor budgets, analyze expenditures and financial trends, prepare reports and forecasts, and provide reliable financial information to support administrative and operational decisions. This position will also coordinate requests for fiscal notes, be involved with testing the court’s enterprise resource planning software, and function as the backup to the property management function. The Budget Analyst works under the general supervision of the Deputy Judicial Administrator - Chief Financial Officer.

 

Key Responsibilities May Include:

• Assist with the development, preparation, and administration of the Louisiana Supreme Court's annual operating budget.
• Review budget requests, expenditures, encumbrances, and available balances to ensure compliance with approved budgets and applicable policies.
• Monitor departmental spending and identify significant variances between budgeted and actual expenditures.
• Prepare financial analyses, projections, forecasts, and budget variance reports for management review.
• Assist departments in developing annual budget requests, supporting documentation, and expenditure estimates.
• Review purchase requests, contracts, personnel expenditures, and other financial commitments for budgetary impact.
• Maintain accurate budget records and financial data in applicable accounting, budgeting, and financial management systems.
• Prepare recurring and special financial reports for Court leadership, administrative management, and other authorized parties.
• Research financial information and analyze historical spending patterns to support budget recommendations and forecasting.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field.
• Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, governmental finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and other financial or business software.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a state or local government, court system, or other governmental organization.
• Experience with budgeting and appropriations processes.
• Experience with enterprise financial management or accounting systems.
