Job Summary:

A Brooks Construction internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the Heavy Highway, Civil, and Horizontal construction industry through a hands-on learning approach. Our internship program considers each student's interests and preferred field while providing rotations through multiple departments to offer a well-rounded construction experience. Interns are paired with a company mentor for guidance and support, gaining valuable real-world exposure across multiple divisions of an industry-leading construction company.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Participates in on-site field and office operations to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of heavy highway and civil construction
• Supports project teams with assigned tasks and day-to-day activities under the direction of supervisors, project managers, foremen, and other team members
• Gains exposure to construction operations that may include asphalt paving, milling and patching, concrete, earthwork, pipe installation, grade preparation, and other field activities
• Observes and assists with surveying, layout, quality control, materials testing, and asphalt plant operations, as assigned
• Gains exposure to project management, estimating, sales, engineering, civil design, CAD, equipment, and logistics functions to better understand how they support construction operations
• Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality, follows established work schedules, and communicates absences or scheduling concerns appropriately
• Follows all company safety policies, procedures, and project requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and reporting unsafe conditions
• Follows instructions and completes assigned tasks accurately, safely, and within established timeframes
• Asks questions and seeks clarification when needed to develop a better understanding of assigned work and construction processes
• Uses company equipment, tools, technology, and materials responsibly and in accordance with company guidelines
• Participates in meetings, training, safety activities, and other learning opportunities as required
• Maintains a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as required for travel between company facilities and project location

• Must have reliable transportation with the ability and willingness to travel up to 90-mile radius from our office (at intern's expense)
• Exhibits dependability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
• Ability to follow Brooks Construction workplace policies and requirements

Education and Experience

• Current enrollment at a college or university
• Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering/Technology, Civil Engineering/Technology, Project Management, Business, or a related field

Physical Requirements

• Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs frequently
• Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs frequently
• Movement Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, and keyboarding; occasional sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level
• Use of Hands: Frequent use of hands for keyboarding and handling materials
• Environmental Exposure: Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, dust, wet surfaces, uneven terrain, and standing on concrete; frequent travel; frequent work in both indoor and outdoor environments

Working Environment

• Field and office work varies by rotation, with assignments tailored to studies and interests
