Description
Civilian position performing responsible work in the control room of the County Jail. Constantly monitors all facility activities via electronic video cameras and remotely controls the movement of all personnel within the Jail by operating the electronic controls for all doors, elevators, and auxiliary equipment. Operates NCIC/VCIN terminals. Performs other duties as assigned.
* Shift Hours and/or Days Worked: 2:30p-10:30p* Hours Required for this Position: 40/week
- Constantly monitors all facility activities via electronic video cameras.
- Operates the electronic controls, located in the control room for all doors, elevators, and auxiliary equipment.
- Operates the NCIC/VCIN terminals for in-house staff and incoming law enforcement personnel as needed.
- Prepares required reports.
- By phone and in person, assist the public with questions and concerns about jail and court matters.
- Monitor fire alarms panels for the jail and courthouse complex.
- Monitor panic alarms from the courts and magistrates office.
- Reports emergencies and contact EMS and supervisors.
- Monitors and responds to the emergency elevator phone system for Juvenile Intake.
- Uses work-time in an efficient manner, consistent with the mission of the Jail, and under minimal supervision.
- Completes and maintains all testing, training, and certification as required by constituted authority or mandated by statute.
- Performs job tasks effectively in a professional manner under varying levels of stress and activity.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience
Required: None.
Certifications/ Licenses
Required: Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record. Learn and become certified in the operation of NCIC/VCIN terminals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to focus and recognize images immediately as they appear on monitor screens.
- Ability to learn the electronic and mechanical functions of all the controls located in the control room.
- Ability to learn and execute various emergency plans should the need arise.
- Ability to read, understand and comply with all corrections policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain logs and prepare detailed reports.
- Ability to multitask during routine and stressful situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, superiors, departments, and other government entities and the general public.
- Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the general public in emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Ability to work in a solo capacity while locked in a small room.
Must be a citizen of the United States, at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must have 20/30 vision with or without corrective lenses. May be subject to DMV driving record review as required by amount of work related driving, specified by support responsibilities. Individual subject to a complete background investigation. Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.
