Description
About the Role
TeraRecon, part of ConcertAI, is building a next-generation radiology platform for healthcare systems. The platform brings together AI model development, agentic AI systems, and an advanced medical image viewer.
We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the services behind our cloud-native, AI-assisted medical imaging platform. You will own backend systems end to end, from API design to production operations, in an environment where reliability, security, and data integrity matter.
You will work closely with product, frontend, ML, and DevOps teams, and help set engineering standards for the team. This role is open at both Senior and Staff/Lead levels. Scope and expectations are calibrated to your experience
What You'll Do
- Design and build scalable, secure, and highly available backend services and APIs (REST/gRPC) in Python or Go.
- Own services through the full lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
- Architect data pipelines and asynchronous workflows for high-volume, large-payload data.
- Design and optimize data models and queries across relational and NoSQL stores.
- Improve the performance, reliability, and observability of production systems, including profiling, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
- Write design documents, run architecture reviews, and make well-reasoned trade-offs.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and container orchestration.
- Contribute to security, privacy, and compliance practices, including audit logging, access control, and data protection.
- Work with teammates across India and the US, with some overlap hours for cross-timezone collaboration.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python or Go, with idiomatic, production-quality code.
- Proven experience building and running large-scale distributed systems in production, with a track record of handling high throughput, large data volumes, or high concurrency.
- Solid grasp of system design: microservices, event-driven architecture, caching, queues, idempotency, consistency trade-offs, and failure handling.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (or similar RDBMS), including schema design, indexing, query tuning, and migrations.
- Experience designing and consuming REST and/or gRPC APIs, including versioning, auth (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT), and rate limiting.
- Experience with AWS (or another major cloud): compute, object storage (S3), networking, IAM, and managed databases.
- Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong testing discipline: unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Experience with observability: structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog).
- Strong written and verbal communication, and comfort working with distributed teams across time zones.
Good to Have
- Experience with workflow/orchestration engines (Temporal, Airflow, Celery, Step Functions).
- Experience with message brokers and streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS).
- Familiarity with Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or other specialized data stores.
- Python frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask, asyncio) or Go ecosystem tools (gRPC, Gin/Echo/Chi, goroutine-based concurrency patterns).
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Experience in healthcare, medical imaging, or other regulated domains (HIPAA, FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 62304).
- Familiarity with DICOM/DICOMweb, PACS, FHIR, or HL7.
- Experience serving ML models or integrating AI/LLM-based services into production backends.
- Security best practices (OWASP, secrets management, encryption at rest and in transit).
- Contributions to open source or technical writing.
Level Expectations
- Senior Engineer (approximately 6–9 years)
- Independently design, build, and ship complex features and services.
- Own one or more services in production, including on-call and incident follow-up.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
- Contribute actively to design reviews.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
What We Offer
- Work on technology that directly affects patient care and clinical workflows.
- Ownership and real influence over architecture decisions.
- A collaborative, distributed team across India and the US.
- A hybrid work model based in Bengaluru.
- Compensation as per industry standards.
- Learning and growth opportunities
