In this position, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the local community has in-field customer response while also ensuring they have utility meters that work appropriately and provide accurate data for a seamless billing process.
The Public Utilities Department's Water Service Technician is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred starting rate of $19.54 - $21.00 per hour (equivalent to $40,643 - $43,680 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Water Service Technician Senior classification may be considered at that level.
As a Water Service Technician, you'll:
- Perform customer service, investigations, inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair maintenance for Public Utilities work orders;
- Locate and read meters;
- Respond to work order assignments, resolve customer complaints, perform investigations to troubleshoot account management issues, and maintain records and files including documenting all field activities;
- Assist with construction activities by providing investigation of availability and initialization of service;
- Inspect plumbing and utilities for leaks, pressure issues, and cross-connections;
- Perform preventive maintenance and testing of all meter types and registers.
- As needed, be on-call for off-hours emergency response, participate in a rotating, non-working hours, stand-by program, and perform snow and ice removal.
- High school diploma or GED and minimal experience involving the operation and maintenance of water systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license.
