Description
We are working closely with a local authority in Somerset to assist with the appointment of a Building Control Surveyor, on a 5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £306.36- £421.40 per day

Summary:
The Building Control Surveyor is responsible for delivering statutory Building Control services on behalf of Somerset Council, ensuring compliance with the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act 2022, and associated legislation. Acting as a Registered Building Inspector (RBI), the postholder undertakes plan assessments, site inspections, enforcement activities, and specialist technical advice to ensure that new developments and alterations are safe, compliant, and meet the highest standards of health, fire safety, accessibility, and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out statutory Building Control functions as a Registered Building Inspector (minimum Class 2 registration or equivalent competency).
- Undertake statutory consultations with internal departments, Fire and Rescue Services, and external consultees where required.
- Advise customers throughout construction projects to achieve compliance while supporting successful project delivery.
- Prepare fee quotations for Building Control services in accordance with Council charging schemes.
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) requirements necessary to retain Registered Building Inspector registration.
- Undertake site inspections involving scaffolding, ladders, excavations, confined spaces, and live construction environments.
Qualifications:
- Registered Building Inspector (RBI) or working towards a minimum Class 2 Registered Building Inspector registration.
Essentials:
- Significant experience working within Building Control in either a Local Authority or Approved Inspector/Registered Building Control Approver environment.
- Experience undertaking plan checking and site inspections across a broad range of construction projects.
- Experience applying technical judgement to complex building compliance issues.
- Experience supporting enforcement activity and regulatory compliance.
