Description
We're looking for a Director of Product Development to lead innovation and launch programs from first concept to production start-up. You'll own formula and shade development across our color cosmetics portfolio, spanning lip, eye and cheek, turning brand strategy and consumer insight into products that perform for artists and everyday wearers alike.
You'll partner closely with the VP of Product Development, Marketing, Operations and Regulatory, and with our lab and vendor partners. You'll also lead and grow a junior team member(s). This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves the bench as much as the launch calendar. This role is onsite in our West Hollywood, CA corporate headquarters.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Innovation and concept development
Partner with the VP of Product Development and Marketing to identify, evaluate and develop new color cosmetics concepts that align with brand strategy, consumer needs and market whitespace.
Track color cosmetics trends, artistry techniques and competitive launches, and scout new ingredients, pigments, textures and technologies for the pipeline.
Represent the brand at vendor meetings, lab visits and industry trade shows to build the innovation funnel.
Formula and shade development
Write clear, detailed development briefs and manage recurring formula submissions from labs and contract manufacturers.
Lead formula and shade evaluation and approvals, coordinating feedback between vendors and brand stakeholders.
Evaluate color performance, including payoff, blendability, wear, transfer resistance, undertone accuracy and batch-to-batch shade consistency.
Own shade analysis across lip, eye and cheek: identify shade gaps, build inclusive ranges across skin tones and undertones, recommend lineups and curate assortments, then present findings to leadership.
Attend on-site approvals as needed, including lab development, pilot batches, line trials and production start-up.
Testing, claims and regulatory
Work closely with Regulatory, who facilitate safety and sensory testing, to define testing needs, provide formula and claims inputs, and review results. Partner closely with third-party testing facilities on clinical and consumer testing, from study design and protocols through results, to substantiate product claims. Coordinate stability and wear testing.
Ensure claims and product information meet regulatory requirements for marketing and education use.
Partner with Operations and Regulatory on product registration and compliance requirements for each launch market.
Launch program management
Work closely with Operations on new product development, ensuring every program adheres to its milestones and launch dates.
Collaborate in regular cross-functional meetings with Operations (NPD), Regulatory and Marketing; flag risks early and drive solutions.
Present new launches to field and sales education teams, sharing formula benefits, shade stories, claims and application tips so they can educate and sell with confidence.
Build and improve stage-gate processes, tools and documentation to deliver high-quality, on-time, in-full (OTIF) launches.
Manage product profiles and retailer-specific PDP content to ensure accurate, compliant product information at launch.
People leadership
Lead, coach and develop a junior team member(s), setting clear goals and supporting their growth.
Model a collaborative, solutions-oriented culture across the product development function.
What success looks like
First 90 days: You know the portfolio, pipeline and vendor base, and you're partnering with Operations to keep active launches on their milestones.
First 6 months: Briefs, submissions and approvals run on a predictable cadence, and stakeholders see program risks before they hit dates.
- First year: Launches ship on time and in full, shade and assortment recommendations shape the roadmap, and your team member is growing in scope.
TRAVEL
This role requires a minimum of 60% of work travel for lab visits, line trials, production and trade shows.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of product development experience in beauty, with a strong focus on color cosmetics.
2+ years managing people or leading project teams.

Working knowledge of claims substantiation and cosmetic regulations (for example FDA and MoCRA, EU and UK cosmetics regulations, Health Canada).
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to run multiple launches at once.
