Generally, the hiring range is $60,557-$75,696 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

As part of the Douglas County Environmental Health team, the Environmental Health Specialist I performs inspections and investigations of public and private establishments and other environmental situations to ensure compliance with local and state health and safety codes.  Working assigned program to include either retail food establishments, childcares, and body art facilities, or Onsite Waste Treatment Systems (septics), swimming pools, waste tires and landfills, environmental record reviews.

We are looking for someone who brings sound judgment, strong communication skills, attention to detail and a service-oriented approach. The ideal candidate will have an a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Environmental Health, or a related field, one year of professional experience in a related program; or in lieu of bachelor’s degree, incumbent must have four years of professional experience in a related program. A combination of experience and education may be considered. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions.  This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.  In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
