Position Summary:
The Senior Fabricator/Welder is highly skilled and experienced in performing advanced fabrication and welding of frames, subassemblies, and components used in the manufacturing of asphalt pavers, brooms, graders, loaders, road wideners, and other heavy equipment.
This position requires the ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions and other written or verbal specifications to accurately lay out, fit, fabricate and weld components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs advanced fabrication and welding of frames, subassemblies, components and other parts used in heavy equipment manufacturing.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, work instructions, specifications, and other technical information.
- Determines proper layout, fit-up, welding sequence, and fabrication methods based on drawings and specifications.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, fits and tack welds components prior to final welding.
- Positions parts in jigs and fixtures or on fabrication tables and floor, and clamps or secures components according to layout marks and specifications.
- Performs Flux Core welding using appropriate welding techniques and settings.
- Performs welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and possibly overhead welding positions
- Scarf, grooves, bevels, or otherwise prepares weld joints and materials prior to welding when required.
- Verifies dimensions, angles, alignment and fit-up using tape measures, squares, and other measuring tools.
- Inspects completed welds and fabricated components for proper bead size, appearance, dimensions, and conformance to specifications.
- Identifies fabrication, fit-up, or weld quality concerns and advises supervisor to determine the appropriate corrective action.
- Chips, grinds, cleans, or removes excess weld, slag, spatter, and other material as necessary to meet workmanship and quality standards.
- Troubleshoots welding and fabrication problems, working with supervisors, manager, Engineering, Quality, and other appropriate departments to resolve issues.
- Assists with rework and corrective actions related to welding, fabrication, or workmanship concerns.
Requirements

- Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives
- Ability to use tape measures, squares, and other measuring tools accurately
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) preferred
- Minimum of five years of hands-on fabrication and welding experience in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of five years of Flux Core welding experience
- Proficiency utilizing Flux Core welding processes
- Experience fabricating structural components, frames, weldments, or similar heavy-equipment components preferred
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with arms and hands, bend, stoop, and perform other movements associated with fabrication and welding activities.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Work is performed in a heavy manufacturing and fabrication environment
- The noise level in work area is typically moderate to loud
- The employee may be exposed to welding fumes, sparks, heat, moving equipment, metal components and other conditions normally associated with welding and heavy equipment manufacturing
- Required PPE (personal protective equipment) must be worn at all times while in production areas
