About our client
An international marine and port engineering contractor with a global delivery record spanning deep-water ports, terminals, breakwaters, dredging and reclamation across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas — and a growing portfolio of port and marine works in Hong Kong and the region. The organisation delivers under international standards and values engineers who carry professional chartership into the field, not just on paper.
Why these seats exist
The Hong Kong marine bench is being built out ahead of current and pipeline port programmes. These are founding-team appointments — the engineers hired now will shape how the local delivery organisation works.
The role — Civil / Senior Engineer
You will provide chartered engineering leadership on marine construction works, carrying professional responsibility from design review through to construction and handover:
- Lead engineering delivery on marine structures: berths, quays, jetties, breakwaters, seawalls and revetments
- Direct dredging and reclamation works: methodology, sequencing, survey control, settlement and quality monitoring
- Review and challenge marine structural designs and temporary works; own technical submissions and departures
- Manage the marine construction interface: vessels, plant, navigation, environmental constraints and statutory marine permits
- Coordinate with consultants, authorities and specialist subcontractors — representing the contractor at technical and site level
- Uphold chartered professional standards in every signature: buildability reviews, QA/QC regimes, and engineering judgement that stands up to audit
- Mentor site engineers and graduate engineers toward professional qualification
Requirements — non-negotiable
- Corporate Membership of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (MHKIE) — Civil discipline (Chartered status). This is a hard requirement of the client's professional governance framework; applications without current MHKIE cannot be progressed.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Solid track record in marine / port / coastal engineering construction — main contractor or specialist marine contractor side
- Working command of marine construction methods: piling over water, caissons/berthing structures, armour systems, dredging plant, marine QA (surveys, bathymetry, tolerances)
- Strong written and spoken English and Chinese
- Experience with Hong Kong statutory processes (marine permits, EIA conditions, Marine Department interfaces) strongly preferred
- International project exposure valued
The package
- Base salary at a competitive market rate for a chartered marine engineer at senior level — chartership carries a genuine premium here
- Performance bonus, medical benefits, and structured CPD aligned with HKIE requirements
- Regional exposure: Hong Kong seats connect into a global port pipeline
- A visible runway: founding-team engineers define the local organisation's engineering standards and progression
