Description
Our Innovation team is growing, and we are looking for a Controls Engineer who can help turn ideas into reality at a rapid pace. Once a project is approved, our team moves quickly from concept to design and delivers a working proof-of-concept prototype in months, not years.
We focus on opportunities with the potential to create substantial new revenue streams, leading early product development through technical and commercial validation. Concepts that demonstrate viability receive further investment to refine the design and capabilities, eventually transitioning to our business units for broader commercialization.
In this role, you will develop, integrate, and validate control-system solutions for mechatronic products and systems. You will define and implement controls architectures, PLC programming, diagnostics, and system-validation plans while collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, product-management, and supplier teams. Our goal is to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions for high-growth markets.
Key Responsibilities
o Guide other controls and electrical engineers on executing the overall controls architecture vision
o Controls System Development - Define and develop controls architecture for mechatronic systems, including remote monitoring, connectivity, and intelligent diagnostics.
o Lead platform and device selection to meet product requirements, including modularity, scalability, and system performance
o System Integration - Integrate electrical, mechanical, and controls components so the overall system performs the required tasks.
o PLC Programming - Create, edit, and maintain control programs using PLC tools such as ABB Automation Builder, Allen-Bradley, CODESYS, Unitronics, and related platforms.
o Requirements Support - Help translate product and system needs into clear controls requirements and technical solutions.
o Validation and Testing - Support validation planning, system testing, and troubleshooting to verify product performance and reliability.
o Diagnostics and Innovation - Improve controls functionality and enhance integration between mechanical components and intelligent control features, especially diagnostics.
o Cross-functional Collaboration - Work with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, product management, project management, and suppliers to meet technical, timing, and customer requirements.
o Technical Documentation - Contribute to design requirements, development documentation, validation records, technical reviews, and establishing / improving best practices.
Required Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
o Experience in Control Systems, Mechatronic Product Development, Industrial Power and Control Panels, or related industrial technologies.
o Demonstrated success developing new products, technologies, or engineered solutions from concept through prototyping, testing, and validation.
o Strong capability in PLC programming and controls logic development
o Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
o Ability to work independently, lead technical efforts, and contribute as a subject matter expert within a team-oriented environment.
o Ability to travel, up to 25%, domestic and international
Preferred Qualifications:
o Experience with CODESYS and fieldbus
o Experience with industrial devices such as VFDs, Motion Controllers, Sensors, I/O.
o Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet.
o Experience with industrial panel or system validation in a product development environment.
o Exposure to mechatronics, connected products, or intelligent diagnostics solutions.
