• Under direct supervision of Reclamation Manager operates heavy duty equipment to excavate the landfill site, transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.
• Operates heavy equipment, such as bulldozer, front-end loader, and compactor, to excavate the landfill site, transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.
• Directs incoming vehicles to the dumping area.
• Examines cargo to prohibit disposal of caustic waste or hazardous material, according to government regulations.
• Notifies Scale House Operator/Bookkeeper of any haulers delivering non-acceptable materials.
• Separates and organizes recycled material according to government regulations.
• Using excavated soil, covers layers of compacted waste material to solidify layers for future use.
• Using designated truck, spreads water over landfill area to control dust.
• Isolates demolition and construction debris to maintain within restricted areas.
• Performs preventative maintenance on equipment on a daily basis.
• Checks level of engine oil, antifreeze/water levels, wheel bolts, radiator cleanliness and air filters.
• Makes visual inspection of equipment for any leaks or wire corrosion. Maintains cleanliness of cab area.

• Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures and applicable laws.
• Performs duties in safe and environmentally compliant manner. Complies with all safety guidelines and attire.
• Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements

 Knowledge Requirements

• High school or comparable occupational training.
• Must have knowledge of techniques for safely operating heavy material moving equipment.
• Must be familiar with waste and hazardous materials that could potentially cause a problem at the site.
• Knowledge of the technical operation of heavy equipment would be helpful in making minor repairs or conducting preventative maintenance.

Experience Requirements

• Must have three years' experience in operating heavy material moving equipment.
• Three or more years of related reclamation, recycling and land fill machinery operations is preferred.
• Experience working with hazardous materials would be helpful.
• Experience operating a Loader, Skid Steer, Excavator, Dozer.
• Class A CDL a plus

Skills Requirements

• Must have operation of heavy material and earth moving machinery skills.
• Must be alert and aware of materials that are being brought into the site.
• Must have the ability to detect problems and bring about solutions.
• Operation and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery.

Physical Demands

• A high level of visual acuity is required to concentrate and operate heavy equipment in a congested area.
• Hearing, speech, and movements requiring the strenuous use of wrists, hands and/or fingers in order to operate hydraulic or other controls are essential.
• Must be capable of climbing ladders on machinery up to 10 feet to access cab.
• Sits about 80 percent of the time in a cab of heavy material moving equipment.
• Remainder of time is spent walking on uneven surfaces often muddy and slippery.
• Works 100 percent of time outdoors subject to extreme variations of temperature, rain and humidity.
• May be required to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally or lift and move objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.
• Must possess valid state driver's license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to Company standards.
