POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Manager leads quality across Press-Seal’s three facilities in Fort Wayne, Jasper, and Elkhart, Indiana, and manages day-to-day quality operations at the Fort Wayne facility. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position owns the company’s ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management systems, ensures consistent standards and metrics at every site, and drives customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead quality across the Fort Wayne, Jasper, and Elkhart facilities, setting quality strategy and ensuring consistent standards, procedures, and metrics at all three sites.
- Manage day-to-day quality operations at the Fort Wayne facility, including incoming, in-process, and final inspection.
- Champion the company’s ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 programs to ensure compliance and maintenance of certifications at all sites.
- Integrate inputs from customers, suppliers, associates, and others into a program that complies with, and exceeds, the requirements of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, including customer-specific requirements.
- Lead customer, certification, and surveillance audits, and develop the training and supervision program for internal auditors.
- Maintain document control and record control of QMS and EMS systems.
- Oversee the corrective/preventive action process, including customer complaints and cross-site corrective actions, using 8D, 5-WHY, and other problem-solving methodologies.
- Provide structure and documentation to Management Review meetings per ISO and IATF standards, and report quality performance to the COO.
- Apply and coach the AIAG core tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and control plans.
- Lead the Material Review Board (MRB) and drive reductions in scrap, rework, and customer PPM.
- Manage supplier quality, including supplier audits, scorecards, and supplier corrective actions.
- Manage activities of the Metrology and Calibration lab.
- Develop structure and process for integrating quality management into production processes.
- Hire, train, and develop the quality team, and support the quality leads at the Jasper and Elkhart facilities.
- Keep current on changes in standards and implement those within the company.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified as Lead or Internal Auditor for ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949.
- Working knowledge of the AIAG core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).
- Proven ability to communicate effectively across a broad range of work groups, from senior managers to entry-level employees.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform all phases of root-cause analysis and to assist others in learning this.
- Ability to lead and coordinate quality activities across multiple facilities.
- Ability to travel regularly to the other facilities and customers as needed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Four-year degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience; Engineering or Quality Engineering background preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years in quality management.
- Hands-on experience maintaining ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality systems and leading certification audits.
- Experience leading a quality team; multi-site experience preferred.
- In-depth experience auditing quality systems, including internal audits, supplier audits, and resolution of preventive and corrective actions.
- ASQ certification (CQE, CQM/OE, or CQA) a plus.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, kaizen, or continuous improvement background a plus.
