NORTHWEST NAZARENE UNIVERSITY

COLLEGE OF BEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Director of Clinical Training, Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology

Description of Position

Northwest Nazarene University’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications for a Director of Clinical Training (DCT) for its APA accredited Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology program.

The preferred appointment is a full-time core faculty position with primary responsibility for leadership and oversight of the program’s clinical training. However, NNU is open to flexible appointment structures for a well-qualified candidate, including reduced-load or associated faculty appointments focused substantially on clinical training. The scope of DCT responsibilities, teaching, scholarship, service, and other faculty expectations will be adjusted to the percentage and type of appointment.

The DCT provides leadership and oversight for the clinical training components of the PsyD program, including practicum training, internship preparation, clinical competency development, and relationships with community training sites.

The PsyD program is primarily a face-to-face doctoral program based on NNU’s campus in Nampa, Idaho. Preference will be given to candidates who can be regularly present on campus and actively engaged with students, faculty, supervisors, and community training partners. Alternative arrangements may be considered for an exceptional candidate when they are consistent with program needs.

The PsyD program is accredited, on contingency, by the American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation and follows a practitioner-scholar model of doctoral education. The program emphasizes clinical competence, academic rigor, and thoughtful integration of Christian faith with the science and practice of psychology.

Director of Clinical Training Responsibilities

  • Oversees the practicum training sequence and ensure that clinical experiences support progressive development of professional competencies.
  • Coordinates practicum placements and maintains relationships with external training sites and supervisors.
  • Develops and expands relationships with community agencies and clinical settings to increase the range and quality of practicum opportunities available to PsyD students.
  • Represents the PsyD program in the community and cultivate new clinical training partnerships.
  • Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of practicum sites and address concerns related to student training experiences.
  • Monitors student clinical progress and readiness for advancement through successive levels of training.
  • Works with faculty and supervisors to identify and address concerns related to clinical competence, professionalism, and readiness for practice.
  • Maintains clinical training policies, procedures, documentation, and records consistent with program requirements and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Provides orientation and ongoing communication to students regarding practicum expectations, documentation, evaluation, and professional responsibilities.
  • Supports students through preparation for doctoral internship, including readiness review and the APPIC application process.
  • Monitors student progress through internship application, placement, and completion.
  • Maintains relationships with internship and practicum training partners and develop additional training opportunities as needed.
  • Participates in program assessment and accreditation activities related to clinical training.
  • Collaborates closely with the PsyD Program Director, faculty, clinic leadership, and administrative staff regarding clinical training needs and student progress.
  • Participates in faculty discussions and decisions regarding student remediation, professional development, and clinical competency.
  • Stays current with developments in clinical training, licensure preparation, APPIC processes, and APA accreditation expectations.

Faculty Responsibilities

Depending on appointment type and percentage, faculty responsibilities may include:

  • Teach courses within the PsyD program based on areas of expertise and program needs.
  • Advise and mentor doctoral students.
  • Chair or serve on dissertation committees.
  • Participate in PsyD faculty meetings, student interviews, program events, and curriculum development.
  • Maintain scholarly and professional activity consistent with faculty appointment and university expectations.
  • Participate in department, college, university, and professional service as appropriate to appointment.
  • Model ethical, professional, and culturally responsive practice consistent with the profession of psychology and the mission of Northwest Nazarene University.

Teaching and other faculty responsibilities will be adjusted to reflect the administrative responsibilities and percentage of appointment associated with the Director of Clinical Training role.
