Moog is seeking a Project Quality Engineer to support quality processes that ensure our products meet or exceed customer and contractual requirements. In this role, you will help ensure product integrity and contribute to the delivery of mission-critical spacecraft hardware. You will report to the Quality Manager and work onsite at our Chatsworth, California facility.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM discipline and 3 years of quality engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment
• Experience in aerospace, defense, spacecraft, or high-reliability manufacturing environments. 
• Experience serving as a quality interface with customers, suppliers, and government representatives. 
• Demonstrated ability to communicate quality risks, technical concerns, and compliance issues effectively to manufacturing, engineering, program management, customers, and executive leadership. 
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, manufacturing plans, and acceptance test documentation. 
• Proficiency in AS9100D, AS9102, AS9145, ISO9001 or similar. 
• Experience with RCCA methodologies including 8D, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, and 5-Why. 
• Experience supporting reliability analyses, failure investigations, environmental testing, qualification testing, or life-test programs for aerospace hardware. 
• Experience supporting MRB and nonconformance investigations. 
• Familiarity with configuration management and traceability requirements for mission-critical hardware. 
• Experience applying statistical methods and data analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, SPC 
  • software, or equivalent analytical tools. 
• Experience collaborating with customers and government representatives, including DCMA. 
• Experience reviewing and implementing customer contractual quality requirements and aerospace quality clauses.
• Must have the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

• 8-12 years’ experience. 
• Experience supporting the design, manufacture, assembly, testing, or verification of spaceflight hardware. 
• DCMA interaction. 
• Experience applying advanced statistical methods, process capability analysis, regression analysis, and statistical process control techniques. 
• Configuration management experience. 
• Experience supporting precision electromechanical assemblies, mechanisms, actuators, bearings, motors, sensors, or other high-reliability flight hardware is strongly preferred. 
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or other relevant quality certification.  
• Experience supporting spaceflight, military, or other mission-critical hardware programs.  
• Experience with customer source inspection and government oversight activities.  
• Familiarity with IPC J-STD-001, NASA workmanship standards, or related aerospace workmanship requirements.  
• Familiarity with aerospace special process controls, including soldering, welding, cleaning, coating, heat treat, plating, bonding, and related Nadcap-controlled processes. 
• Experience supporting environmental tests, qualification test, and failure analysis activities. 

Project Quality Engineering Accountabilities include: 

 

Program Quality & Mission Assurance

• Serve as the primary Quality Engineering representative for assigned programs and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
• Interpret customer, contractual, regulatory, and internal quality requirements and ensure appropriate implementation and flow-down throughout the product lifecycle.
• Develop and execute program quality and mission assurance plans, including surveillance, compliance verification, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Participate in proposal, contract, requirements, design, qualification, milestone, gate, and engineering change reviews to ensure quality requirements and risks are appropriately addressed.
• Assess and communicate quality risks affecting product integrity, reliability, safety, mission success, or contractual compliance.
• Monitor program quality performance and communicate significant risks, trends, and issues to program leadership and customers, as appropriate.

Product & Manufacturing Quality

• Provide Quality Engineering support throughout manufacturing, assembly, test, and delivery to ensure compliance with engineering, contractual, workmanship, and quality requirements.

• Review manufacturing and test planning, work instructions, travelers, quality records, and End Item Data Packages for compliance and completeness.

• Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities, independently assessing nonconformances, product risk, and disposition recommendations.

• Support First Article Inspection (AS9102), product traceability, configuration control, configuration audits, and verification activities.

• Support supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions, source inspections, audits, and supplier nonconformances

Root Cause, Analysis & Continuous Improvement

• Lead or support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations and development of effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Analyze manufacturing, test, statistical, and quality performance data using appropriate methods, including SPC and process capability analysis.
• Identify adverse trends, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities and support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and present quality performance metrics and analysis to management, customers, and program teams.

Customer, Regulatory & Compliance

• Interface with customers, DCMA, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding quality requirements, product acceptance, and compliance matters.
• Support customer source inspections, AS9100 audits, customer audits, and other regulatory or contractual compliance activities.
• Support design verification, validation, qualification, and product acceptance activities as required.

Quality Leadership & Independent Authority

• Serve as an independent quality authority throughout design, manufacturing, assembly, test, and delivery, with particular emphasis on mission-critical and spaceflight hardware.
• Exercise sound engineering judgment in evaluating technical, quality, configuration, workmanship, contractual, and mission assurance concerns.
• Independently identify, communicate, and escalate conditions that may compromise product integrity, reliability, safety, mission success, or contractual compliance.
• Demonstrate the professional judgment and willingness to challenge, stop, or escalate activities when quality or compliance requirements may be compromised.

Salary Range Transparency:

Chatsworth, CA $95,000.00–$135,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
