The Project Quality Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, administering, and continuously improving quality programs and processes supporting Defense Business Unit programs. The position ensures that products, processes, documentation, and deliverables meet or exceed contractual, customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.

This role serves as a key quality representative for customers, government agencies, suppliers, and internal Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly & Test, and program teams. The Project Quality Engineer applies sound technical judgment, analytical capability, and a proactive approach to quality, compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement in support of mission-critical products.

Here are the skills you’ll bring with you…

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering/STEM discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Engineering or Manufacturing (8 years preferred), including at least 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting complex, mission-critical electronic, electrohydraulic, electromechanical, machined, assembled, and/or tested products is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with:
  • Root-cause analysis and closed-loop corrective action
  • Nonconformance processing and material review
  • First Article Inspection Report preparation
  • Inspection planning and quality planning
  • Customer, supplier, and government quality interfaces
  • Configuration control, traceability, and end-item documentation
  • Statistical analysis, process monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Working knowledge of applicable quality and technical standards.
• Proficiency in statistical, spreadsheet, word-processing, and database software applications.
• Lean/Six Sigma experience is preferred; certification is an advantage.
• Knowledge of ESD, FOD, and handling requirements for electronic hardware and test equipment is preferred.
• Servo-valve subassembly knowledge and experience is preferred.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.

 

As a Project Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

• Lead quality planning and program execution for assigned Defense BU programs, including the development and administration of quality plans, inspection plans, first article inspection activities, and controls for receiving inspection, manufacturing, assembly, test, and final inspection.
• Ensure contractual and regulatory compliance by maintaining appropriate quality documentation and controls, including traceability, configuration management, contamination control, end-item data packages, and the flow-down of applicable requirements to suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary quality interface with customers, government representatives, regulatory agencies, suppliers, and internal functional teams. Support source inspections, customer and government audits, quality reviews, and hardware shipment activities.
• Lead resolution of quality issues through nonconformance management, material review, failure analysis, root-cause investigation, corrective and preventive action, risk mitigation, and verification of corrective-action effectiveness.
• Drive product, process, and cost improvements by conducting quality and process studies, identifying improvement opportunities, recommending design or process changes, and applying statistical and problem-solving methods, including statistical process control, regression analysis, gauge variation, and Design of Experiments.
• Provide technical quality support and guidance to Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly & Test, suppliers, and customers to resolve fabrication, process, product, field, and compliance-related issues. Travel to supplier and customer locations may be required for source inspections, audits, and issue resolution.
• Build quality capability across the organization by providing training and technical direction on program-specific quality requirements, inspection practices, statistical methods, process controls, and continuous-improvement tools. Mentor Quality Assurance Technicians, Associate Quality Engineers, and Quality Engineers, as assigned.
• Support program execution and resource planning through preparation of quality proposals, cost estimates, estimates to complete, manpower-loading estimates, and reviews of program and personnel assignments to support mission success and effective workload distribution.

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $110,000.00–$145,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
