The motor underwriter will report to the Motor Underwriting Manager. The appointed person will take responsibility for selected countries; assist the Motor Underwriting Manager in the underwriting of motor fleet business from Group companies and will have significant focus on developing the company’s approach to pricing. They will be responsible for the pricing, implementation and maintenance of our motor insurance programmes in a number of countries. Working with Actuarial, Legal and Business Development teams to develop insurance products for the clients of Ayvens.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Managing various existing motor insurance programmes across multiple jurisdictions
- Main point of contact for dealing with day-to-day queries from Ayvens affiliates (business partners) and Fronter partners.
- In conjunction with the Underwriting Management, work on ensuring that pricing is appropriate and meets local entity requirements.
- Involvement in day-to-day discount and special acceptance requests. Review and validate analysis prepared by the Data Analyst based on customer and country performance. Check if discounts are within the Underwriter authority limits and make recommendations for approval.
- Define, develop and update policy wordings for new and existing programmes
- Co-ordinate the implementation of and the annual review of the Risk Selection & Pricing Procedures issued by Ayvens Insurance to Ayvens entities acting as policyholders and/or intermediaries of Ayvens Insurance
- Identifying and implementing corrective measures required to enhance the profitability of a motor portfolio
- Monitoring and administrating the Underwriting Key Performance and Key Risk Indicators
- Co-ordinate and administer reinsurance referrals and requests, in conjunction with in-house reinsurance team and external parties
- Participate in the review of programme structure, terms and conditions
- Participate in Business Control Reviews to ensure compliance with underwriting and regulatory guidelines
- Interact with our in-house Actuarial, Legal and Business Development teams and the insurance managers at the various Ayvens entities
- Involved in Ayvens affiliate (business partners) and Fronting partners meetings / calls.
- Any other tasks or projects as requested by Underwriting Management
Character Profile
Requirements
- A minimum 3 years’ experience in motor underwriting
- CIP Qualified and / or an Insurance Graduate
- Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
- Knowledge of underwriting rating methods, procedures and reviews
- Excellent MS Office skills, in particular excel
- Attention to detail and accuracy essential
- A highly organized individual with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines and act on own initiative
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Team player who will play an important role as part of a specialized team
- Innovative and creative with willingness to bring new ideas to improve processes
Desirable
- 5 years’ experience in motor underwriting
- Understanding of cross border insurance programmes (“Freedom of Services”, Solvency II, Insurance Distribution Directive, etc.)
- Experience in the design and construction of policy wordings for a range of motor insurance and ancillary covers
- MDI qualified or progression towards this
- Clear understanding or experience in the motor leasing industry
This role is subject to the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity Standards (“Standards”).
