Description
At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
Own the full business-side product loop from analytical instrument output to governed data and monitored AI-assisted interpretation. The role modernizes pCMC analytical and preformulation workflows, removes manual file movement, and turns routine NMR, MS, chromatography, XRPD and open-access measurements into reliable data products, classifications and first-line scientific decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Own, document and prioritize the modernization roadmap for NMR, MS, LC/GC-MS, XRPD and open-access analytical workflows.
- Build and maintain tested pipelines, APIs and connectors linking instruments, analytical software, MAX-SMR/ELN workflows, governed repositories and reporting tools.
- Implement metadata capture, data-quality checks, lineage, observability, recovery procedures and programmatic archival aligned with FAIR and Data Integrity expectations.
- Migrate critical ACD and local analytical scripts onto supported pipeline platforms before the current backbone is retired; retire or transfer legacy components with explicit service ownership.
- Develop and operationalize bounded ML/AI for routine analytical classification, anomaly detection, automated assignment and first-line interpretation, with prospective evaluation, human review, monitoring and documented applicability limits.
- Own selected analytical AI products end to end, from problem framing and evaluation data through monitored rollout and adoption, including DiPLab or agent-assisted interpretation and evidence-linked reporting; transfer scalable components to supported CsCoE/RDT environments.
- Support adoption through onboarding, training and workflow documentation, and provide the technical evidence needed for pCMC portfolio and governance decisions.
Key interfaces
- pCMC digital lead and circle data owners for priorities and decision rights
- AMC/DDPS/PMS scientists for scientific acceptance criteria
- CsCoE, RDT/Science & Research and enterprise data-platform teams for build and lifecycle
- JD-2 for experiment-execution interfaces and JD-3 for advanced developability-model interfaces
Qualifications and skills
- Master's degree or PhD in analytical chemistry, scientific computing, data engineering, cheminformatics or a related field.
- Strong Python and SQL skills; experience with Linux/HPC, APIs, workflow orchestration and production-quality scientific software.
- Hands-on familiarity with analytical laboratory data and systems, ideally NMR, MS, chromatography, XRPD, ELN/LIMS and archival platforms.
- Demonstrated scientific ML/AI and software-engineering discipline: evaluation design, uncertainty/applicability, human review, version control, automated testing, monitoring and maintainable interfaces.
- Working knowledge of FAIR data, metadata standards, Data Integrity and risk-based validation in a research environment.
