Job Description
Responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems. Responsible for leading breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers. Advises physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor and/or manager. Provides all staff education to meet the requirements for baby friendly designation. The Lactation Consultant utilizes evidenced based knowledge to promote breastfeeding and to support breastfeeding families. The Lactation Consultant serves the following age groups on a regular basis: Neonates, Infants, Adolescents, and Adults
Additional Job Description
Education: Education required for certification
Experience: 1 year experience directly related to major responsibilities required
Licensures/Certifications: BLS required, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant preferred (must be obtained prior to two year anniversary)
