This position is responsible for analyzing business processes, translating institutional requirements into Workday solutions, supporting system configuration, managing functional security, coordinating system testing, developing reports and dashboards, documenting business processes, and providing functional leadership for Workday Student initiatives. The Business
Analyst serves as the liaison between functional departments, Information Technology, and LSU System partners to ensure Workday Student effectively supports institutional operations and strategic objectives.
The incumbent will lead continuous process improvement initiatives, evaluate new Workday functionality released during biannual updates, participate in enterprise governance activities, coordinate testing and deployment of new functionality, and ensure business processes align with university policies, accreditation requirements, and LSU System standards.
This position requires extensive collaboration with campus stakeholders to improve operational efficiency, increase data quality, enhance reporting capabilities, support regulatory compliance, and provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
Job Description
Essential Duties:
Business Analysis & Functional Leadership (30%)
Serve as the primary functional analyst and subject matter expert for the Workday Student application and associated student administrative processes.
Partner with functional offices including Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Academic Advising, Academic Affairs, International Student Services, Student Success, and Institutional Research to evaluate business needs and identify opportunities to improve institutional processes.
Analyze existing business processes and recommend streamlined, automated solutions utilizing Workday Student functionality and industry best practices.
Facilitate business process redesign workshops with campus stakeholders.
Develop business requirements, functional specifications, process maps, use cases, workflow diagrams, and acceptance criteria for new functionality and system enhancements.
Translate complex functional requirements into technical specifications for Information Technology staff, integration developers, and LSU System technical teams.
Evaluate new Workday Student functionality released during biannual updates and recommend adoption strategies that improve university operations.
Participate in institutional governance committees responsible for Workday configuration standards, change management, and enterprise business processes.
Support strategic initiatives associated with the LSU Enterprise Workday migration.
Workday Student Administration & Functional Support (25%)
Provide functional administration and day-to-day support for Workday Student modules including, but not limited to: Student Admissions, Recruiting, Student Records, Registration, Curriculum Management, Academic Foundations, Academic Programs, Academic Periods, Grading, Academic Standing, Transcript Processing, Graduation, Transfer Credit Evaluation, Student Tasks, Student Holds, Student Security Roles, and Student Communications.
Troubleshoot complex functional issues impacting students, faculty, advisors, and administrative departments.
Coordinate issue resolution with LSU System functional teams and Information Technology personnel.
Assist with functional configuration changes, security modifications, business process updates, and system enhancements.
Support end-of-term processing including grading, academic standing, honors, transcript production, degree processing, and student record maintenance.
Monitor system performance and proactively identify opportunities for operational improvement.
Business Process Improvement & Organizational Effectiveness (15%)
Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend process improvements that reduce manual effort, improve service delivery, and enhance data accuracy.
Develop standardized operating procedures and functional documentation.
Analyze business metrics to identify trends and recommend operational improvements.
Support Lean process improvement initiatives.
Ensure business processes align with institutional policies, federal regulations, accreditation standards, and LSU System requirements.
Reporting, Data Analytics & Decision Support (10%)
Develop and maintain operational reports, dashboards, and analytics supporting student
administration.
Collaborate with Institutional Research, Enrollment Management, and Information Technology to improve reporting capabilities.
Create custom Workday reports supporting: Admissions, Enrollment, Registration, Student Success, Academic Progress, Graduation, Compliance Reporting, and Executive Decision Making.
Validate data integrity and resolve reporting discrepancies.
Assist departments in identifying key performance indicators and developing meaningful operational dashboards.
System Testing, Release Management & Quality Assurance (10%)
Coordinate functional testing associated with Workday releases, patches, configuration changes, and new implementations.
Develop comprehensive test scripts and regression testing scenarios.
Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with campus stakeholders.
Document testing results and communicate recommendations for production deployment.
Support implementation of new Workday functionality through planning, testing,
communication, and deployment.
Participate in release readiness activities for semiannual Workday updates.
Integrations, Security & Cross-Functional Collaboration (5%)
Collaborate with Information Technology to support integrations between Workday Student and university systems including: Slate (future implementation), Canvas, Microsoft Entra ID, Housing, Student Financial Systems, Identity Management, CRM solutions, Reporting platforms, and Third-party student applications.
Review functional security requests and ensure appropriate access is granted in accordance with university policies.
Participate in security reviews and governance activities.
Assist departments with workflow automation and integration improvements.
Customer Engagement, Training & Documentation (5%)
Develop functional documentation, job aids, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures.
Provide functional training and guidance to university departments.
Participate in campus training initiatives supporting new Workday functionality.
Serve as a trusted advisor to campus leadership regarding Workday Student capabilities and best practices.
Support organizational change initiatives associated with business process improvements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
Three years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, student information systems, or business applications.
Experience analyzing complex business processes and translating functional requirements into technology solutions.
Experience supporting enterprise reporting and data analysis.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience facilitating meetings with stakeholders and documenting business requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
Experience developing business process documentation and standard operating procedures.
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Three or more years of functional experience supporting Workday Student in a higher education environment.
Experience implementing or supporting Workday Student modules.
Experience with student lifecycle business processes, including Admissions, Registration, Academic Records, Graduation, and Student Success.
Experience with Workday Report Writer, Prism Analytics, or Workday Extend.
Knowledge of higher education regulations including FERPA and accreditation requirements.
Experience supporting enterprise SaaS implementations.
Experience with business process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
Workday Pro certifications or equivalent Workday functional training.
Experience participating in enterprise governance, change management, or ERP implementation projects.
