Mold Maker

Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mold Maker for a 1-year contract position. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of mold design, fabrication, and maintenance to ensure seamless production operations. The ideal candidate will also possess the technical expertise to assist with the setup and programming of production machining and occasionally operate our production EDM equipment.

· Daily activities involve programming, set up, and machining operations to construct, modify and repair intricately designed and constructed tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges and machine attachments.

· Work from sketches and print information or CAD files in order to produce mold base and mold components according to design specifications.

· Select the appropriate tools and materials for each project.

· Operate tool room lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs and other supporting equipment to produce molds or projects as per mechanical drawings.

· Assume responsibility for quality, workmanship, dimensional accuracy. 

· Employee will plan, prioritize and organize work effectively to meet deadlines.

· Collaborate with Machinists, Production Manager, Leads, Press Operators, and other Tool Makers to complete projects or improve processes.

· Maintain tool room equipment, and keep the tool room clean, safe, and in order.

· Notify supervisor of any tooling or supplies needed.

· Create, complete, and maintain documents, materials and process traceability.

· Responsible for following all safety requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· Education or prior job experience with Trigonometry and machine shop related math.

· Education or prior job experience on CAD/CAM systems.

· Education or prior job experience hand programming CNC machine tools. 

· Education or prior job experience in a machine shop with manual and CNC mills and lathes, EDM and surface grinding.

· Education or prior job experience designing and building compression, transfer, and injection molds.

· Education or prior job experience working with metrology tools and quality assurance systems.

· Education or prior job experience using common Microsoft office computer programs.

Skills

· Communication skills. A team player capable of participating in group problem solving. Apply practical knowledge to propose reasonable solutions, make logical decisions and carry out decisions made.

· Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings on paper or CAD 3D models. 

· Able to create new CAD 3D part models and CAD assemblies. 

· Must be able to Program and proofread G-code for a variety of CNC tool machines, by hand and with CAM Software.

· Expertise in Metrology involving all aspects of machining and production.

· Able to apply tolerances where appropriate to complete projects with good fit and finish in a timely manner.

· Expertise in manual and CNC machining, wire EDM, sinker EDM, surface grinding, and hand polishing, among other shop operations.

· Able to design and build fixturing for tool machines to complete machining projects.

· Able to design and build fixtures or hand tools to aid production mold operators.

· Knowledge of quality assurance. Must be able to interpret feedback from production leads and inspectors to fix or improve a process, or customer requirement. 

· Must be able to setup machines.

· General understanding of properties of metal and plastic materials.

· Mathematical and Mechanical Aptitude. 

· The ability to complete projects with minimal supervision.

· Conceptual skills and continual improvement methods.

· The ability to visualize a finished product.

Physical requirements

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Able to concentrate on complex solutions for projects, and stay focused during tedious tasks.

Be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time.
