Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in building highly scalable, resilient, and cloud-native distributed systems.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Java and modern backend technologies with a strong understanding of event-driven architectures, cloud platforms, containerisation, and emerging AI-driven software development practices. The role requires both strong technical execution and the ability to influence engineering excellence across the team.
What You'll Do
• Design, develop, test, and support enterprise-grade microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build highly scalable and resilient APIs and backend services.
• Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka.
• Develop cloud-native applications deployed on PCF and containerised environments.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
• Drive software quality through automated testing, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and reliable payment solutions.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic coding practices to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues with a focus on reliability and operational excellence.

Required Skills
Core Engineering
• Strong proficiency in Java (8+ years preferred).
• Expert knowledge of:
o Spring Boot
o Spring Framework
o RESTful Services
o JPA/Hibernate
o Multithreading and Concurrent Programming
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design and Design Patterns.
Event-Driven Systems
• Hands-on experience with Kafka.
• Experience building asynchronous and event-driven architectures.
• Understanding of reliability patterns such as:
o Outbox Pattern
o Retry Mechanisms
o Idempotency
o Dead Letter Queues
Cloud & Platform Engineering
• Experience with PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry).
• Strong Docker expertise.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications.
• Familiarity with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices.
Databases
• Strong SQL skills.
• Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar relational databases.
• Understanding of performance tuning and query optimisation.
Quality & Security
• Test-driven development practices.
• Unit, Integration, and API Testing.
• Secure coding practices.
• API security using OAuth2, OIDC, and JWT.
Agentic & AI-Powered Engineering
• Hands-on use of:
o GitHub Copilot
o AI-assisted code generation
o AI-driven testing and debugging
o Agentic software development workflows
• Ability to effectively leverage AI tools while maintaining engineering quality and security standards.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in Payments, Financial Services, or FinTech.
• Experience with high-volume, transaction-processing systems.
• Knowledge of event sourcing, CQRS, or domain-driven design.
• Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, or observability platforms.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.
• Demonstrated use of GenAI tools to improve engineering productivity and delivery outcomes.
