Overview
The Data Programmer II serves as a technical liaison between client business requirements and marketing campaign execution. This role focuses on translating campaign specifications into data processes, writing SQL code for ETL workflows, and developing quality control reports to ensure campaign accuracy and compliance. The Data Programmer will be able to translate marketing campaign requirements against technical best practices and will determine the solution that provides the best combination of functionality, performance, and ease of maintenance. The candidate must have the ability to self-direct, set goals, and meet aggressive deadlines. This is a key factor in the overall success of the Auto/Direct organization. This is a production-oriented marketing data processing role that combines SQL programming, campaign execution, and quality control.
Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Translate client marketing requirements into technical specifications and executable processes, collaborating with project managers and account teams to clarify requirements and communicate technical constraints or data availability
- Write, modify, and implement SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts that interface with data orchestration tools for campaign extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), and processing
- Design and implement data streams that incorporate data hygiene, merge/purge, and transformations
- Develop quality control (QC) reports and validation processes to confirm data accuracy, expected output, and the impact of changes before campaign deliverables are released
- Manage assigned campaigns through completion by following documented processes and sequencing, meeting agreed timelines, and communicating risks, blockers, or potential delays promptly
- Understand database architecture, modeling, ETL, SQL, database access tools, and existing codebases to implement campaign-specific logic
- Support implementation of marketing automation, campaign orchestration, and operational data processing solutions
- Document data processes and QC findings, adhere to production standards, and help refine standards that improve quality and productivity
- Provide requirements to the technology delivery group to improve product integration, internally developed infrastructure components, and application templates based on project experience
- Participate in code review and acceptance process to improve methodology and delivery
Qualifications
Skills:
- Ability to read, understand, adapt, and document existing SQL queries, stored procedures, ETL processes, and database structures to meet campaign requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quality control skills with the ability to identify relevant facts, troubleshoot issues, and prevent data quality problems
- Ability to effectively manage, prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent campaigns within tight project deadlines
- Strong listening and communication skills; ability to capture requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications
- Understanding of data quality best practices, including deduplication, data hygiene, validation, and clear QC reporting for technical and business audiences
- Flexible, self-directed, and able to independently learn and understand the business purpose, expected outputs, dependencies, and QC requirements of assigned campaigns and processes
Technical Requirements:
- 5+ years data programming experience with focus on SQL development and data processing
- Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and Transact-SQL, including the ability to write, understand, and modify queries, stored procedures, and existing production processes. Experience with CTEs, query optimization, and other advanced SQL techniques is beneficial
- Solid understanding of relational database concepts, SQL, and data modeling techniques
- Experience writing and maintaining SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, campaign processing, and quality control reporting
- Knowledge of data security, data transfers, and compliance best practices
- Experience with data hygiene and merge/purge applications
- Ability to leverage AI tools (MS Copilot, Cursor, Kiro) to enhance productivity in code development, debugging, and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in marketing or automotive industry
- Experience with or familiarity with Databricks is beneficial; familiarity with Oracle Database or Snowflake is also helpful
- Experience working with Azure cloud platform and Visual Studio Code
- Demonstrated experience working on teams in a matrix organization structure
- Familiarity with workflow management or marketing automation systems
