Description
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise construction activities associated with electrical distribution projects, including new supplies, cable diversions and substation refurbishments.
- Coordinate site resources to ensure projects are aligned with program requirements, delivered safely, on schedule & in budget.
- Monitor project progress, quality and resource requirements.
- Support the planning and execution of project works to achieve operational and financial objectives.
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, company procedures and engineering standards.
- Act as the primary site contact for contractors, customers and other team members.
- Supervise contractors and monitor performance to confirm alignment with contractual requirements and company standards.
- Cultivate effective relationships with internal teams, external contractors, government bodies, utility providers and customers.
- Resolve site challenges in a timely and professional manner.
- Support effective communication between project partners throughout project delivery.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching and support to construction teams and operational personnel.
- Support the development of team capabilities through mentoring, training and exchanging expertise.
- Promote high levels of engagement, accountability and performance across site teams.
- Encourage a collaborative culture focused on safety, quality and ongoing improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental and company procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure alignment to Distribution Safety Rules, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor site activities and maintain appropriate records, inspections and audit documentation.
- Support investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives relating to safety and operational performance.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and planning teams to support network reliability and asset performance.
- Apply technical knowledge and industry standard process to support effective project delivery.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of construction processes, standards and methodologies.
- Maintain professional knowledge and support continuous professional development activities.
- Assist with performance reporting, project metrics and operational targets.
- Ensure a customer-focused approach is maintained throughout every phase of the project.
- Minimise disruption to customers and partners during construction works.
- Support the delivery of high-quality services through professional communication and effective project management.
- Represent the business positively when engaging with customers, contractors and the wider community.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution networks, construction practices and utility operations.
- Proven experience supervising construction or infrastructure projects within a utility or technical setting.
- Leadership and people management skills, capable of motivating and supporting teams.
- Strong project coordination and resource management skills.
- Sound understanding of environmental guidelines as well as safety and risk management requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good IT skills and experience using business systems and project documentation tools.
- Customer-focused approach with the ability to manage contending priorities effectively.
- Experience in fault finding and diagnosing issues on LV and HV electrical systems up to 11kV
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and standard processes.
- Experience managing contractors and supplier performance.
- Understanding of network asset management principles.
- Experience preparing operational reports, performance metrics and project updates.
- Familiarity with utility industry regulations, standards and codes of practice.
- PRINCE2 qualification or project management experience.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a utility, construction, infrastructure or engineering environment.
- Valid driving licence.
- Relevant technical experience within electrical distribution, construction or utility operations.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
- Electrical, engineering or construction-related qualifications.
- Project management qualifications or training.
