Description
The Development & Outreach (D&O) Manager serves as a crucial member of the management team and provides oversight in the areas of fundraising and organizational marketing and awareness. The Manager has deep knowledge of, and a genuine passion for, the services at Life’sWork and an enthusiastic commitment to the organization’s success.
The position focuses on leading Life'sWork’ fundraising efforts, development strategies, and outreach and community engagement efforts. The manager serves as a champion of Life'sWork’ important mission, engaging community partners, supporters, and funders.
The Manager has a good understanding of the philanthropy ecosystem that supports human services organizations and networks in and around the Pittsburgh region.
The Manager reports to the Executive Director, works closely with the Leadership team and supervises contracted consultants to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization.
- Work with the Board and the Executive Director to leverage their networks to identify and cultivate would-be donors, sponsors, and partners.
- Manage internal and external communication efforts in conjunction with the leadership team.
- Support internal staff engagement and appreciation efforts.
- Develop specific and measurable short and long-term plans in the areas of philanthropic giving, community outreach, and awareness.
- Research and advise on philanthropic funding sources and local, regional and national trends, with foresight to position Life'sWork ahead of major funding changes or trends.
- Supervise contract providers and act as the liaison with internal departments for grant writing efforts.
- Develop and implement awareness, outreach, and community engagement efforts designed to increase the profile and presence of the organization to attract interest in supporting the Life'sWork mission.
- Manage community outreach activities, including events, meetings, presentations, conference attendance, education sessions, and vendor tables.
- Oversight and coordination of internal and external events (Gala, fundraising events, etc.).
- Complete activities relating to the CRM database (Bloomerang or similar), including donation processing, financial reconciliation, and recommend improvements as required, championing a data driven culture within the organization.
- Manage in-kind donations and partnerships, including gift acknowledgement and tracking procedures
- Set brand guidelines and work with the leadership team to support consistent branding throughout the organization.
- Manage branding, marketing, media, and public relations initiatives, including the agency website and social media pages.
- Oversee volunteer activities and opportunities, and on-board volunteers in conjunction with Human Resources.

- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA laws and internal policies and procedures.
Education & Qualifications
- Seeking an organized self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while also developing strong internal and external relationships
- Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of experience in a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, computer/laptop, tablet and cell phone required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
- Experience with CRM systems preferred
- Experience with Canva preferred
Working Conditions
- Some travel and occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Office setting may require long periods of sitting.
- Will occasionally lift and carry 10-15 pounds.
