Description
Senior Tax Accountant
Are You Ready for a Different Kind of Accounting Firm?
Are you an accountant looking for a change? Feeling burned out by the traditional accounting industry and wondering when you'll find the right fit? Maybe you love accounting, formulas, and numbers, but don't love the cold offices and rigid corporate culture that often come with the profession.
At AM CPA, we believe you shouldn't have to choose between a career you enjoy and an environment where you can be yourself. We're looking for a Senior Tax Accountant who wants to build their career in a fast-paced, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable environment.
You'll notice right away that AM CPA is not your typical accounting firm. We're proud to call Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District home. And yes-we actually enjoy coming to work. You'll find plenty of collaboration and laughter and a team that takes our work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
Work With Clients You'll Recognize
We work with a diverse group of small and mid-sized businesses, including many local companies and brands you may already know and support. There's something especially rewarding about helping businesses thrive when you can see their impact in your own community.
Our broad client base also means you'll work across a variety of industries, gain valuable experience, and continually learn something new.
This Isn't Your Traditional Accounting Firm
If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced, progressive, and open-minded workplace where individuality is valued and people are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work, we'd love to hear from you.
If you're looking for the same old accounting firm, we're probably not the right fit. If you're looking for something different, you just might have found it.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll serve as a trusted tax resource for our clients-preparing returns, helping clients maintain compliance with taxing agencies, and helping taxpayers achieve the best tax position possible.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare complex individual (Form 1040) and business entity tax returns (Forms 990, 1065, 1120, and 1120S).
- Manage client tax onboarding and proforma setup in UltraTax.
- Develop and maintain supporting tax schedules, forms, workpapers, and documentation.
- Perform tax analysis, including projections, estimates, and client-specific calculations.
- Research client-specific tax issues and determine appropriate tax treatment.
- Communicate with federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
- Participate in tax planning, consulting, and special projects.
- Work directly with clients to gather information, explain tax matters, answer questions, and provide guidance.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to other team members, including reviewing work and mentoring staff as assigned.
Who Will Thrive Here
We're looking for someone who is meticulous about their work without losing sight of the people behind the numbers. Every role at AM CPA is client-facing, and the experience we provide our clients matters.
You'll probably fit in well here if you:
- Can juggle competing priorities and deadlines while keeping a level head and positive attitude. Tax season will always be tax season-we need people who can fight the good fight.
- Are flexible, adaptable, and willing to jump in when something needs to get done. One of our core values is "No one is too important to own any task," and we live by it.
- Take confidentiality seriously.
- Have meticulous attention to detail and take pride in producing high-quality work.
- Can take direction when needed and delegate when appropriate. We're a collaborative environment and take teamwork very seriously.
- Actually find joy in accounting-and share that joy with our clients. Clients keep coming back because of the positive environment and experience.
- Are a problem solver with sound judgment. We don't micromanage, so being able to figure things out is a must.
- Communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
- Want to contribute to the continued growth of AM CPA. We're growing and excited to cultivate something truly unique in the industry.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience, primarily focused on individual income tax preparation, review, and planning.
- Professional experience preparing individual and business entity tax returns.
- CPA license strongly preferred.
- UltraTax or comparable professional tax software experience preferred.
- Strong tax research, analytical, problem-solving, and client-service skills.
Above all else, we're looking for the right fit. If you don't check every box but think you'd be a great addition to AM CPA, we'd still like to hear from you. Tell us why you'd be a good fit.
Why You'll Love Working Here
We believe great work and a great workplace can-and should-go together. At AM CPA, you'll enjoy benefits and flexibility designed to help you have a life outside of tax returns, too.
- Unlimited PTO
- Flexible Fridays during the off-season - every other Friday off, or work remotely when it's your Friday to work
- Benefits
- IRA matching
- A collaborative, high-energy team that genuinely enjoys working together
- A culture where individuality is valued and you're encouraged to be yourself
Because accounting is serious enough. Your workplace doesn't have to be.
