Job Title:

CARE Program Manager for Math Access, Readiness, and Persistence

Department:

Engineering | Community, Access, Retention and Empowerment Office

The CARE Program Manager for Math Access, Readiness and Persistence (MARP) plays a strategic and collaborative role within the Office of Community, Access, Retention, and Empowerment (CARE) in the College of Engineering. The role will design, implement, and manage strategic initiatives that support undergraduate students, with a particular emphasis on math and science academic recovery, resource readiness review, and targeted advising interventions for enrolled students within the College of Engineering (COE) and Knowlton School of Architecture (KSA). This position plays a pivotal role in advancing institutional goals related to student persistence, academic achievement, and graduation outcomes.

In collaboration with the Director for Student Success and other Community, Access, Retention, and Empowerment (CARE) staff, the position plays an important role in advancing holistic, data-informed academic support initiatives and curriculum that advance student success in foundational math courses. The role analyzes service utilization, outcomes, and student feedback to drive continuous improvement. In collaboration with the mathematics department, the program manager for MARP reviews course-level performance data to identify barriers and co-develop curriculum-aligned support and targeted interventions that strengthen student achievement in key gateway courses. The program manager will support the Assistant Director of Academic Success and Retention in Academic Coaching in Engineering (ACE) operations- recruiting, training, and scheduling academic coaches-and ensures services promote effective learning strategies, confidence, and engagement.

In addition to academic recovery support services, the program manager for MARP may oversee student personnel and budget operations to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of CARE’s student success initiatives. The role stays current on emerging best practices, conducting studies, developing proposals, and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders. Leveraging data from the College of Engineering and CARE programs, the program manager collaborates closely with the Assistant Director for Academic Success and Retention and the Director for Student Academic Success to advance retention priorities.

Flexibility is essential, as the position may require occasional evening or weekend commitments, as well as travel. Significant interaction with various stakeholders is inherent to the role; opportunities for remote or hybrid work schedules are limited.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, engineering or a closely related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered. Minimum of 4 years of experience in managing student success, academic advising, background in curriculum development, and formal group instruction for mathematics, preferably at the college level. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills; experience in developing and implementing program evaluations and reports; ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents and collaborators; success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities and stakeholders. Experience in staff supervision; ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse high performing team and work effectively with a variety of constituents and collaborators. Must pass a criminal background check.

Desired: Master's degree in mathematics, Engineering Education, STEM Education or related field; Demonstrated effectiveness in leading and/or serving in a supportive role in student support services, academic success programs, or higher education administration. Experience working with or advising undergraduate students, preferably in STEM disciplines; experience working with undergraduate engineering students; familiarity with summer bridge programs or first-year experience initiatives; knowledge of learning analytics and assessment tools.
