Role Overview

As Claims Manager, you will manage a portfolio of professional indemnity, liability and financial lines claims from notification through to resolution, including policy interpretation and small to mid-value matters handled directly by you.

This role has been created as the business moves its claims handling away from a previously outsourced provider and into an internal function. You will work closely with the broader specialist team and become a trusted point of contact for brokers and insureds as this internal capability is built out.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of professional indemnity, liability and financial lines claims from notification through to resolution
• Interpret policy wording to determine coverage positions on new and existing claims
• Handle small to mid-value matters directly, negotiating and progressing settlements
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers and insureds
• Liaise with legal panel firms on claims strategy and coverage positions
• Support the transition of claims handling from an outsourced provider to an internal function
• Provide technical input on complex coverage and liability questions as required

Candidate Profile

Professional indemnity experience is essential, ideally alongside some exposure to liability, construction liability or financial lines matters. Personal injury experience is a plus but not essential. You don't need to be a practising lawyer, though a legal background is highly regarded, whether you're an associate or senior associate in private practice, someone who hasn't yet practised, or you've already moved into a claims role. This position carries no direct reports, so it will suit someone who wants to stay hands-on with policy and claims work rather than manage a team.
