At Shell Energy, we’re helping Australia decarbonise through reliable, innovative and cleaner energy solutions. We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to join our high-performing Assets and Generation team in Brisbane.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Strategy Portfolio & Generation, this role provides technical and engineering leadership across Shell Energy’s generation and production assets spanning gas generation, storage, and renewables (solar). You’ll be instrumental in delivering engineering leadership, driving operational excellence and supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of critical infrastructure.

With respect, integrity and honesty, responsibilities include:

• Provide visible leadership across Shell Energy operated assets, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Lead the Shell Energy engineering team, building capability through mentoring, coaching, succession planning and structured career development.
• Own the engineering management system, standards and assurance processes, ensuring technical decisions are appropriately governed and aligned with Shell requirements, industry standards and regulatory obligations.
• Provide technical oversight of capital projects, modifications and maintenance programs to ensure asset integrity, reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Manage technical and operational risks through robust assurance, compliance and performance monitoring programs, ensuring alignment with NEM requirements, including Generator Performance Standards, protection system changes and AEMO modelling obligations.
• Lead the engineering work portfolio, setting priorities, defining scope and ensuring effective execution of engineering initiatives to support business objectives.
• Provide strategic input into asset management, lifecycle optimisation and generator life-extension strategies to maximise value and long-term performance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with site operations teams, equipment OEMs, contractors, consultants and other key stakeholders to support safe and reliable asset performance.
• Represent Shell Energy in technical engagements with AEMO, transmission and distribution network service providers, and regulatory authorities on matters affecting grid compliance, system security and generator performance.

Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

• Bachelor's in engineering (minimum), preferably Electrical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
• Demonstrated experience leading high performing engineering and/or operations teams supporting operational power generation assets in the Australian electricity sector (NEM and/or WEM).
• Extensive experience in and understanding of gas fired power stations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Solar PV facilities and their associated balance of plant systems.
• A commitment to safety, technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• A commercially aware and solutions-focused approach, with strong engineering judgement, analytical capability and risk-based decision-making skills.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively across operations and asset teams, regulators, network service providers, OEMs and executive leadership teams.
• Sound understanding of NEM and/or WEM frameworks, National Electricity Rules (NER), generator obligations and regulatory requirements, including experience in Generator Performance Standard governance and NER Rule 5.3.9 plant modification processes.
• Proven ability to develop scope and deliver maintenance, major outages and plant modifications through contractors and service providers.  Experience in the delivery of large capital works (construction/overhauls) including gas turbines, BESS and renewable generation assets would be an advantage.
• Willingness to travel to operational sites as required.
