The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist manages day-to-day EHS compliance for the Waukesha and Pewaukee sites while supporting audit, compliance, and training needs across additional domestic and Canadian locations. This role leads safety and environmental programs, incident management and follow-up, ISO 14001 compliance, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement efforts that support Generac’s goal of zero incidents.

Major Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance Monitoring and Reporting

• Manage facility EHS programs, including environmental and safety compliance, training, inspections, reporting, and recordkeeping.
• Serve as the hazardous waste subject matter expert, driving waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
• Coordinate industrial hygiene sampling and ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements.
• Support multi-site EHS activities through internal audits, training, and subject matter expertise.

Supporting Strategic Initiatives

• Provide engaging EHS leadership and promote a strong safety culture across the facility.
• Lead Employee Safety Committees and initiatives that improve EHS performance.
• Champion Generac’s Drive to Zero programs at the facility and corporate level.
• Serve as an EHS subject matter expert supporting multiple locations.

Worksite Analysis

• Conduct facility audits and inspections to identify risks, maintain compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
• Perform and document inspections of hazardous waste accumulation and chemical storage areas.
• Complete Job Safety Analyses and lead corrective actions and safety controls.
• Partner with cross-functional teams on new projects, processes, and multi-site EHS initiatives.

Hazard Prevention and Control

• Conduct ergonomic and safety risk assessments and support solutions that meet established safety standards.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, releases, and property damage to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Coach employees and site EHS teams on hazard assessments, safety procedures, and proper equipment use.
• Lead emergency action planning and support hazard prevention efforts across multiple sites.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

• 5 years of experience implementing occupational safety and environmental programs
• 3 years of experience working in a multi-site manufacturing or industrial environment
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT and local regulations
• Proven knowledge of safety equipment and standards;
• Demonstrated ability to influence management, teams and individuals across multiple functions within the organization;
• Excellent working knowledge of ergonomic analysis tools;
• Excellent working knowledge of emergency action planning;
• Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast paced environment;
• Effective verbal and written communication skills;
• Advanced understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT and local regulations;
• Financial and analytical skills to model and quantify impacts of projects;
• Ability to coach and mentor.

Preferred Job Requirements:

Certification/License

CHMM, CSP, CIH, PE or equivalent Certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
